PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a zone of a specified class to be changed to that of a different class without removing the seat, by providing a means to advance at least specified number of seat cushions in parallel as well as means to advance armrests in parallel. SOLUTION: A two-passenger seat 1 for an economy class can be changed to a one-passenger seat for a first class. It comprises a means to advance in parallel at least one of two cushions for instance and at least one of two armrests 4 for instance. These two seat cushions and the two armrests 4 are kept in a condition where they are aligned with each other after advanced in parallel. With this configuration, the two-passenger seat can be changed into the one-passenger seat by performing a parallel advancement T by a parallel advancing means 5 so that the seat cushions and the armrests are approaching to each other. Also, the one-passenger seat can be changed into the two-passenger seat by performing the parallel advancement T so that they are separated from each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
55 Mechanical linear lock with redundant locking feature JP12164989 1989-05-17 JPH0262408A 1990-03-02 AKIRA TANAKA; JIMII CHIENMIN RII; JIYON AARU MICHIERU
PURPOSE: To obtain positive fail-safe type redundancy by detaching a toothed rack means from a rod by a lever means prior to loosening a coil spring means gripping the rod in a lock for an automobile seat. CONSTITUTION: A rod 16 axially movable piercing a lock housing 12 in a normal state is restrained from axial movement by a locking coil spring 22 having such an inner diameter as to grip the rod 16. When a lock release lever 30 is actuated, a tubular bush 28 is rotated, and a cam protruding part 52 rotates a claw release lever 46 counterclockwise around a pivot 48 and further rotates a backup clutch mechanism claw 32 clockwise around a shaft 34 to separate a claw 36 from a V-groove 19 of the rod 16. At the same time, the locking coil spring 22 is rewound by the further rotation of the tubular bush 28, and the rod 16 is released from the grip to free the rod 6 for axial movement. A seat can therefore be adjusted easily and positively. COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO

57 Vehicle seat JP23656384 1984-11-09 JPS60122514A 1985-07-01 MISHIERU ESU NAERUTO
The invention relates to a seat intended, for example, for automobiles, trains or airplanes, having a back-rest, in which there is arranged a lumbar-support device whose rigidity can be adjusted by turning a wheel mounted on a shaft journalled in the back-rest, and the vertical setting of which can be adjusted by vertically displacing the wheel with subsequent pivoting of the shaft. The lumbar support device comprises a horizontally elongated sheet of flexible material that is bodily vertically displaceable by vertically displacing the wheel, and whose rigidity is adjusted upon turning the wheel by moving toward or away from each other the opposite horizontal edges of the sheet thereby to cause the sheet to bow outwardly to a greater or lesser extent. Turning the wheel winds a filament on the shaft to effect this latter adjustment.
