摘要	PURPOSE: To obtain positive fail-safe type redundancy by detaching a toothed rack means from a rod by a lever means prior to loosening a coil spring means gripping the rod in a lock for an automobile seat. CONSTITUTION: A rod 16 axially movable piercing a lock housing 12 in a normal state is restrained from axial movement by a locking coil spring 22 having such an inner diameter as to grip the rod 16. When a lock release lever 30 is actuated, a tubular bush 28 is rotated, and a cam protruding part 52 rotates a claw release lever 46 counterclockwise around a pivot 48 and further rotates a backup clutch mechanism claw 32 clockwise around a shaft 34 to separate a claw 36 from a V-groove 19 of the rod 16. At the same time, the locking coil spring 22 is rewound by the further rotation of the tubular bush 28, and the rod 16 is released from the grip to free the rod 6 for axial movement.
