61 Apparatus and method for forging a bicycle crank US515995 1974-10-18 US3940969A 1976-03-02 Joseph B. Princehouse
An elongated rod is heated and then inserted into a series of axially spaced die sets each consisting of a pair of mating gripping dies defining a plurality of axially spaced cavities. The rod is gripped by the die sets at axially spaced intervals, and the die sets are then forced axially together by actuation of a press to expand portions of the rod into the cavities and thereby form a plurality of axially spaced enlarged bosses on the rod. The rod is bent to form a set of crank arms integrally connected by an axle portion which has two of the axially spaced bosses. Cylindrical surfaces are forged on the two bosses, and one of the bosses is forged into an outwardly projecting sprocket retaining stud.
62 Method for moulding protruded shafts as one body US3765217D 1971-09-14 US3765217A 1973-10-16 IKEDA H
A method for moulding a base plate with an integral shaft. The method is carried out by successively performing, during the period and intermittently travelling plate of material is stationary, the steps of forming holes at required distances from each other, forming enlarged projections on the under face of the plate for insertion into successive concave holes by pressing on the upper face of the plate for making the plate material thinner between the holes, and finally press-inserting the enlarged projections into successively smaller diameter concave holes to thus reduce the diameter of the projections.
63 Double stroke-double blow header US3722253D 1970-12-22 US3722253A 1973-03-27 TSUDA H; OYAMADA M
A double stroke - double blow header in which a slide is mounted in a machine frame for linear reciprocal movement, a punch attached to said slide, and a forming die fixedly secured to said machine frame in axial alignment with and in opposition to said punch and having a product ejecting knockout pin therein, a stationary cutter fixedly secured to said machine frame in parallel to and spaced from one side of said forming die and having an opening through which wire material is to be fed, a movable cutter having an opening for receiving a portion of said material and also for loosely receiving a pin therein and reciprocally movable between said stationary cutter and said forming die, a drive shaft rotatably supported in said frame and having an integral eccentric sheave thereon, a rockable slide drive lever fitted on said eccentric sheave and having one end connected to said slide through a linkage for driving the slide, a follower shaft rotatably supported in said frame to be driven by said drive shaft with a rotational speed ratio of 2:1 with respect to the drive shaft and having two integral eccentric sheaves thereon, a control level fitted on one of said eccentric sheaves on the follow shaft and pivotally connected to the other end of said slide drive lever, and an operation bar fitted on the other eccentric sheave on said follower shaft for actuating said knockout pin to eject a formed project out of said forming die.
64 Method of forming a claw portion of the front wheel journal fork of a bicycle US3689969D 1970-07-29 US3689969A 1972-09-12 TSUNODA MASASHI
A method of forming a claw portion of the front wheel journal fork of a bicycle, including the steps of axially squeezing a metal pipe, having one end of reduced section, between a pair of chuck electrodes, the electrode seating said reduced section end of the pipe having a die cavity of a desired shape for an intermediate form of the claw portion, while simultaneously applying an electric potential to said electrodes, whereby to soften and form said reduced section end of the pipe to a shape conforming to that of the die cavity, pressing said shaped end of the pipe to flatten said end, shearing said flattened end to a desired claw contour, and punching a hole and a slot in said flat and contoured claw portion.
65 Method particularly for making studs for vehicle tires and the like US3680195D 1969-12-12 US3680195A 1972-08-01 LEJDEGARD SIXTEN HARALD
A method of fixing a pin of harder material in a body of softer material to produce anti-skid tire studs comprises placing a cylindrical blank of the softer material in a first die having a cylindrical bore with a flared opening and a spindle reciprocable in the bore moving toward the first die in a direction axial of the bore a second die having a recess of larger diameter than the bore to form locally an annular enlargement of said blank, removing the second die while leaving the partially formed blank in the first die and thereafter moving toward the first die in a direction axial of the bore a third die having a pin of said harder material positioned axially therein and an annular recess surrounding said pin to press the pin into the partially formed blank and produce flow of said softer material radially into said recess to form a stud having the pin of harder material in one end of a body of softer material having an annular flange intermediate its ends. A head is thereafter formed on the end of the stud opposite the pin.
