본 고안은 전통 관악기 대금의 대중화를 위해 희귀종 고가의 쌍골죽을 대신하여 저렴한 가격으로 대량생산이 가능한 기존 플라스틱제 학습용 대금의 이점과 동일한 질량과 사이즈로 동일한 소리를 낼 수 있다는 장점을 살리는 반면에 실용성에서 확연히 결점을 보인 기존 플라스틱제 대금의 단점을 과감히 개선하고 보완하였다. 본 탐라 대중금은 심신 수련용이자 연습, 연주용으로서 손색이 없도록 업 그레이드한 대중성 있는 민간 관악기인 것이다. 다음과 같이 새롭게 거듭난 본 대금은 잡음발성을 방지하고 온, 반음구사와 감정표현이 용이토록 대금의 취구부분 그 형태와 크기를 입술에 알맞게 개선하였으며 떨림판 역할을 하는 청공부분에 흡착력이 있는 자연산 대나무를 부착하여 기존 흡착력이 전혀 없는 부분을 개선하여 "청" 사용이 용이토록 하였다. 뿐만 아니라 음정을 약간 높이기 위해 취구에서 제1지공 간격을 3mm정도 단축했으며 칠성공의 크기를 조정하여 실용성 있는 최저취 중( )음을 구사하기에 자연스럽도록 조율 하였다. 나아가 내경 끝부분에 "종경"이라는 새로운 구경을 첨부함으로서 소리의 퍼짐을 방지하고 고음부분을 내는데 용이토록 하였고 음색에도 약간의 변화를 주었다. 이외에도 특별한 것은 위생상의 문제를 개선하였으며 밋밋한 플라스틱제 대금에 한층 자연미와 무게감을 더하고 심신의 안정과 애착심을 유발시키기 위해 특수 수성물감과 투명 메니큐어를 통해 대금 내경과 취구 및 각 지공에 금장도색 처리하였으며 대 자체에 사군자 이미지 삽입 코팅처리와 취구와 청공 중간점에 각인을 넣을 공간을 마련하였고 매듭처리방식을 채택하였 다. 대금, 탐라대중금, 플라스틱제대금, 개선대금, 종경, 속마게, 청공개선, 사군자삽입코팅, 각인공간확보, 매듭처리방식
