A vacuum toilet (10) which discharges the wastewater into a wastewater tank (60) via an inlet valve (30), an intermediate tank (40) and an outlet valve (50), wherein, for flushing purposes, a vacuum is generated in the intermediate tank (40), with the inlet valve (30) and outlet valve (50) closed, and then the inlet valve (30) is opened, as a result of which the wastewater is sucked out of the toilet bowl (10) into the intermediate tank (40). Thereafter, the inlet valve (30) is closed again and the intermediate tank (40) is subjected to pressure. Once the outlet valve (50) has been opened, the wastewater is forced into the wastewater tank (60) by the positive pressure. The toilet (10) is distinguished in that, following completion of a flushing operation, the state produced is one in which alternately just one of the two valves (30, 50) has been closed, as a result of which the service life of the valves is extended.

A flush valve assembly for a toilet, the flush valve assembly comprising an electrically-operated flush valve (33) for opening and closing a passage to a waste receiving area and a controller communicating with a water inlet valve (65) and the flush valve (33), the controller opening and closing the water inlet valve (65) and controlling a position of the flush valve (33) in accordance with a position of a flush actuating mechanism.

During the flush cycle, the controller begins opening the flush valve (33) for a first predetermined period of time, then slops opening the flush valve (33) for a second predetermined period of time and then continues opening the flush valve (33) until it reaches the full open position.

Proposed is a toilet system (10) with a toilet (12), comprising a flushing device (16) and a toilet bowl (14), and a faecal tank (20) designed to hold the sewage from the toilet (12). The faecal tank (20) has a separator (22) for separating the solids from the liquid part of the sewage, and the liquid part of the sewage can be drawn off from the separator (22) as unpurified water through a first outlet (24). The toilet system also has a hygienization tank (26) into which the unpurified water separated off in the faecal tank (20) flows through an inlet (28) and which includes a device for hygienizing the unpurified water which is then drawn off as hygienized water through a second outlet (32). The fresh-water consumption requirements of the hygienization device are significantly reduced by virtue of the fact that the toilet system (10) has a recirculation unit (36) with a pump (38) and recirculation line (40), the recirculation unit (36) linking the second outlet (32) to the unpurified-water side of the hygienization tank (26), and the recirculation unit (36) being connected to the flushing device (16) so that part of the hygienized water can be fed to the flushing device for use as flushing water.
98 Railway carriage and assembly method therefor EP89309563.8 1989-09-20 EP0360585A3 1990-09-19 Kostiainen, Kari; Wacker, Jarmo

A railway carriage is assembled by forming a selfsupporting shell (1, 3, 4) and inserting prefabricated units (15) into the shell via an opening (5) left for that purpose. Following insertion and correct positioning of all units required, the opening (5) is closed with a final part (2) of the shell. Services (17, 18) are provided in the shell for subsequent connection to the units (15).
