PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a micro atmospheric pressure wave during high speed travel without reducing cross sectional area of a car body leading to drastic reduction of the number of passengers. SOLUTION: A railway vehicle comprises an air intake means 6 provided to a nose portion of a leading vehicle 1, an air tank (reservoir) 9 for storing intake air, and an air outlet 11, by which air is sucked in (breathed in) during entry of the leading vehicle to a tunnel and discharged within the tunnel, so as to reduce the pressure generated at the nose portion and to cut down micropressure waves. When the nose of the leading vehicle 1 enters the tunnel 3, an intake control valve 8 of the air reservoir depressurized to below atmospheric pressure (1 atm) opens to take in air through an air inlet 6 via a path 7 into the air reservoir 9. When the whole leading vehicle enters the tunnel, the intake control valve 8 closes, and air is discharged through the outlet 11 via a pump 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a traveling characteristic for a rolling stock having a body tail part formed into a tip-directionally tapared stream-line shape, of which a cross-section of a body is formed to be same in a wide range over an outer casing length in the rest thereof, and of which the tail part is provided with an air-flow separator which is movable by a driving device from a tilt position extended radial-directionally outwards to a closing position for forming a face integrally formed with a wall part of the body. SOLUTION: An air-flow separator 6 is extended belt-likely in an outer circumferential direction at least over one portion of an outer casing of a body 1, and has a separation web. A longitudinal-directional side edge part of the web aligned in an edge-part direction of a tail part 2 is provided to be positioned radial-directionally outwards for a functional condition as an air-flow separating edge part 8, and it is projected over adjacent outer casings 7, 2 of the body 1, the separation web is turnably held on the body 1 at least within an area of the longitudinal-directional side edge part directed to an intermediate portion 4 of the body 1, it is formed flexibly, and it is connected to a driving device.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a braking force not resricted by the friction coefficient of a wheel by providing an air inlet free to open on a fairing attached around the lower part of a vehicle body for covering both sides of the under floor part which is opened during deceleration to introduce air flow and to increase air resistance. SOLUTION: A fairing 1 is attached on the lower part of a railway vehicle body to cover the whole of both sides of the under floor part. An air inlet door 2 is installed on the fairing 1. The air inlet door 2 slides upward via the activation of an actuator 5 to open the fairing 1, which permits ambient air to flow in the under floor part. As a result, a braking force which is not restricted by the friction coefficient between a wheel and a rail and which has tha same function and effect as those of an aerodynamic brake is obtained. Therefore, deceleration performance is enhanced and the braking distance is shortened. COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
