PURPOSE:To prevent the speeding of a vehicle at the engine start time, by constituting the device so that the change lever is returned to the neutral position automatically when a key switch is operated to the start position. CONSTITUTION:A folded part 21a formed on a plunger 21 is fitted pivotally to the other arm part 12b of an operating member 12 fixed to the base of a change lever 11, and a lower end part 21b of the plunger is inserted into a solenoid 22. This solenoid 22 is held by a holding member 23 which a changeover switch 26 is fixed on, and the changeover switch 26 has the contact connected to the side of the solenoid 22 for the position other than the neutral position by a projecting part 21c provided on the plunger 21. When a key switch 1 is turned on under this state, power is supplied to the solenoid 22, and the plunger 21 is attracted into the solenoid 22 by the exciting action of the solenoid 22, and therefore, the change lever 11 is turned and is returned to the neutral position automatically. After the return, the solenoid 22 is released, and a starter motor 31 is rotated.

When the vehicle is turned off, the switch is moved to the parking position, thereby preventing safety problems such as sudden unintended acceleration after the vehicle is turned on again after the vehicle is turned off while the switch is at ranges other than the parking range.
