PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rim for a tubeless bicycle wheel or a rim for a bicycle wheel with an air chamber, capable of providing high reliability to the wheel. SOLUTION: The rim for the bicycle wheel includes a body 20 with a substantially annular extension having a radially outer portion 22 shaped for coupling with a tire 15. Such a radially outer portion 22 includes a hole 39 for an inflation valve 12. The hole 39 constitutes a first surface discontinuity along the annular extension of the radially outer portion 22. The radially outer portion 22 further includes, at the hole 39 and/or in an area proximal to the hole 39, at least one cross section having a different shape to that at an area distal from the hole 39, to form at least one second surface discontinuity 35, 35' along the annular extension of the radially outer portion 22. The method involves placing a rim/wheel in a horizontal plane while the rim/wheel is in the first chamber. The method also involves performing a hot liq. cleaning operation upon the rim/wheel while the rim/wheel is in the first chamber, and transferring the rim/wheel after the hot liq. cleaning from the first chamber to a second chambe. The method then comprises shot blast cleaning the rim/wheel while the rim/wheel afte the shot blast cleaning from the second chamber to a third chamber. The method also involves applying an air-impervious coating of resilient protective synthetic polymeric/copolymer material upon all surfaces of the rim/wheel while the rim/wheel is in the third chamber, and removing the rim/wheel from the third chamber for subsequent processing. |
