PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the motion of a rotary tool fitted to a cantilever shaft while preventing excessive restraint.
SOLUTION: Cantilever shafts support bearing assemblies, and a tuned compliance or constraint member 92 is fitted covering these bearings. The compliance or constraint member 92 includes flexure members 102, 104, 106 for minimizing deflection of the shafts and improving operation of associated rotary tools 18, 20. An improved lock nut 70 permits precise installation of the bearing assemblies.

PURPOSE: To make as small as possible the force applied to the housing of a paper making machine when cantilevering the press rollers of the paper making machine.
CONSTITUTION: This roller 3 has non rotational roller main bodies 4, 4', 4a, on which a rotatable roller shell abuts. At the roller ends, the roller main bodies are supported within bearing blocks 6, 6' by similarly non-rotational journals 4, 4'. At the drive end of the roller, a non-rotatable extension member 21 which is independent of the roller main bodies is secured to the bearing block 6', can be connected to a stationary structural part (e.g. frame 15) by a tension bar 22, and works to introduce into each roller main body a couple of reaction forces which compensate for the roller weight.

PURPOSE: To provide a press roll capable of controlling its pressing force throughout the width of a web according to the flexure of the roll. CONSTITUTION: This press roll has such a scheme that the central axis for a squeeze roll 10 and a 2nd roll 11 opposed thereto lies on a press plane E, the orientation of the central axis is deviated from vertical direction, at least one of these rolls is defined as a 'shoe roll', namely, it has a rotatable metallic roll shell 12, a yoke 13 extending past the roll shell, and a shoe 15 in a press gap area, and the shoe roll is pressed against the roll shell 12, thereby a pressure chamber 16 for absorbing liquid pressure fluid lies between the yoke 13 and the shoe 15, the yoke 13 being formed as a hollow body. |

PURPOSE: To realize a compacter construction, and easy and speedy change of components such as rolls, felt belts and cloths.
CONSTITUTION: Support members 5, 6 accommodating either end of supports 14, 16 are combined each other in a form-locking manner by at least one of narrow and long connecting parts 7 extending along the pressure plane of the rolls 1, 2. The connecting parts have distension parts 8 at both ends, and are accommodated withdrawably in corresponding cut-outs 9 installed in the support members 5, 6.
