A gear selection device (16) for a transmission assembly (1) of a vehicle is disclosed, comprising a main lever (18) for selecting two operating positions (U, D) and on which are provided two buttons (P, N), one of which (N) is for selecting neutral, and a small auxiliary lever (23) also having two operating positions (U, D), and an electronic processor (17) for controlling the the gearbox (4) and the clutch (3). The lever (18) is connected to transducer means (24) adapted to convey to the processor (17) input signals (25-30) indicating the actuation of the lever (18) itself, of the button (P) and of the auxiliary lever (23); in particular, when the vehicle is moving, the processor (17) controls the engagement of the first, second or fourth gear higher or lower than that currently engaged following input signals (25-30) corresponding respectively to the actuation of the auxiliary lever (23) by itself in one of the two positions (U, D), of the lever (18) by itself in a respective position (U, D), and of the lever (18) in combination with the button (P), after having verified that the engine speed as a result of the change in gear ratio falls within a range of acceptable values. |

1480041 Valves TOWMOTOR CORP 29 Dec 1975 [30 April 1975] 52973/75 Heading F2V [Also in Division B7] A synchronizing device for initiating operation of an hydraulic pump P, Fig. 1, simultaneously with operation of any one of a number of hydraulic-motor control valves 26, 32, 34, comprises a number of levers 64, 66, 68 for connection to the actuating elements 52 of the valves, and a pivotable gang plate 54 having means 80 for initiating operation of the pump and having adjustable cams 58, 60, 62 cooperating with bearings 70, 72, 74 carried by the levers. When the device is associated with control valves for double-acting hydraulic motors, upward or downward pivoting of any one of the levers about shaft 48 by the respective operating rods 36, 38, 40, causes the bearing 70, 72 or 74 to move along an upper or lower ramped surface of the associated cam to thereby pivot the plate 54 about shaft 56 and cause the means 80 to operate a switch 78 for initiating operation of the electronic drive motor of the pump. The cams are verticallyadjustably mounted to the plate 54 via screws (98), Fig. 2 (not shown), passing through elongated slots (100) in the plate. Moreover, the means 80 is adjustable via a pair of nuts (84, 86). When the device is associated with control valves for single-acting hydraulic motors, the lower ramped surfaces of the cams are each formed along an arc struck about the centre of the shaft 48 whereby downward pivoting of the lever 70, 72 or 74 does not move the plate. The cams are preferably formed of elastomeric material. |

836,061. Change-speed control. BROWN INDUSTRIES Ltd., D. July 2, 1958 [July 4, 1957], No. 21134/57. Class 80 (2). To facilitate engagement of intermediate ratios in a gear-box providing seven speeds and reverse, a manual gear-shift lever 11 is guided by a fixed gate 10 having a central slot with four pairs of aligned speed slots spaced along it, and a baulking plate 12 is slidable in guides 13 of the gate and is provided with an opening indicated by hatching in the drawing. In the position of plate 12 shown, lever 11 can move along the central slot only as far as the 2nd and 3rd speed slots. Movement of lever 11 to the 2nd gear position leaves the position of plate 12 unaltered, but on movement into the 3rd gear position the lever contacts the plate and moves it to the right to a position in which the lever can be moved along the central slot only into alignment with the 4th and 5th speed slots. Movement of the lever into the 5th speed slot moves the plate to the left and enables the highest gears to be engaged. |

A multi-functional apparatus employs an electromagnetic device. The electromagnetic device selectively causes movement of an intermittent motion mechanism thereby moving a mechanical device coupled thereto. In another aspect of the present invention, a single electric motor selectively actuates three intermittent motion mechanisms thereby causing three mechanical devices coupled thereto to operate. In a further aspect of the present invention, a clutch mechanism selectively drives a window wiper. A method for operating the multi-functional apparatus of the present invention is also provided. |

A multi-functional apparatus employs an electromagnetic device. The electromagnetic device selectively causes movement of an intermittent motion mechanism thereby moving a mechanical device coupled thereto. A main driving gear is rotated from the wiper positional range in either direction to access one or another adjacent release positional range, but not necessarily both at the same time. |
