The lever (18) is connected to transducer means (24) adapted to convey to the processor (17) input signals (25-30) indicating the actuation of the lever (18) itself, of the button (P) and of the auxiliary lever (23); in particular, when the vehicle is moving, the processor (17) controls the engagement of the first, second or fourth gear higher or lower than that currently engaged following input signals (25-30) corresponding respectively to the actuation of the auxiliary lever (23) by itself in one of the two positions (U, D), of the lever (18) by itself in a respective position (U, D), and of the lever (18) in combination with the button (P), after having verified that the engine speed as a result of the change in gear ratio falls within a range of acceptable values.

An improved drum type switch-over mechanism for a speed change device including a speed change pedal shaft and a speed change drum both of which are rotatably supported in axial alignment with one another on a transmission case and which are operatively connected to one another by way of an intermittent feed mechanism so as to allow the speed change drum to be rotated by a unit angle in a predetermined direction on every reciprocatable rotation of the pedal shaft by a predetermined angle. The improvement consists in that the pedal shaft is located in axial alignment with an input shaft of the intermittent feed mechanism, that a sun gear is formed on the input shaft while a plurality of planet gears are mounted on the pedal shaft for meshing engagement with the sun gear, and that a ring gear meshing with the planet gears is firmly fixed to the transmission case. This arrangement of the switch-over mechanism enables the pedal shaft, the input shaft and the speed change drum to be disposed within a limited space, realizing a very compact structure of the switch-over mechanism, a substantial reduction of its mounting space and smaller design dimensions of the speed change device.

PURPOSE:To prevent securely wrong operation by controlling forward and backward gear shift with a single rotary system change cam. CONSTITUTION:A rotary system change cam 1 is of a drum type provided on the surface with a circumferential shift groove 2 by which a shift fork 3 is guided. The shift groove 2 and shift fork 3 are disposed by the number necessary for the gear shift of a speed change gear mechanism. When the shift fork 3 is axially moved by pivoting the change cam 1, the gear at the required speed stage is selectively shifted according to the pivotal position of the shift fork. The change cam 1 is provided on the side with an arcuate concave groove 5 into which an end 7a of a stopper pin 7 is inserted. Then, the respective forward speed stages can be freely changed while a back gear 4 cannot be shifted. By operating a releasing level 12 on a handle 10 is withdrawn a stopper pin.
