183 Fahrzeugrad EP84110742.8 1984-09-08 EP0140074A2 1985-05-08 Huinink, Heinrich, Dipl.-Ing.; Frerichs, Udo; Poqué, Dionysius, Dipl.-Ing.

186 Improvements in tire and wheel configuration EP82103819 1982-05-04 EP0066712A3 1983-05-25 Grawey, Charles Edward; Groezinger, John James

in many designs, a tire (14) of a wheel (10) is inadequately restrained with respect to a tire supporting rim assembly (12) of the wheel. Movement of the tire (14) with respect to the rim assembly (12) results in a wastage of energy. In the present invention a wheel assembly (10) has a rim assembly (12) and a tire (14) mounted on the rim assembly (12). The rim assembly (12) has an annular elastic element (22) affixed thereto for increasing the coefficient of friction between the rim assembly (12) and the tire (14).

PURPOSE: To ease bead part falling prevention, rim assembling, and rim releasing by forming the inclined face of a hump part with the two faces of an inclined face ranging to the top of the hump part and that rising from a bead seat part, and forming a recessed-state obtuse-angle corner part on the boundary of the bead seat part and an inclined face on the bead seat part side. CONSTITUTION: Seat inclined faces 9 and 10 having different inclined angles are formed on a bead seat part 5 side, and a well side inclined face 11 is formed on a well part side with the top 8 of a hump part 7 as a boundary. The seat side inclined faces 9 and 10 are composed of part of a conical surface crossing a straight line L parallel to a tire axis line on the top 8 side at 5-30° and part of the conical surface crossing at 15-75° on the seat part 5 side. Moreover the boundary between the inclined face 10 and the bead seat part 5 is formed on an obtuse-angle recessed-state corner M. Furthermore the half value of the difference H between the diameter of the top 8 of the hump part 7 and a rim actual diameter D is set to 0.5-2.5mm. Thus the falling of the bead part B of a tire T can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO&Japio

This disclosure relates to a tire, a rim and a combination thereof that yields improved stability characteristics when the tire is run flat. The combination of this invention yields a structure wherein the tire will operate normally under normal conditions of load and pressure and will operate with the load equally distributed on each sidewall of the tire during run flat operation. In this invention, the tire has an asymmetric sidewall construction resulting from the inclusion of rubber inserts in its sidewalls of different bulk and the rim has axially outward extending rim flange extensions which are angled in relation to the axis of rotation of the rim. The extensions are angled in opposite directions. The proper combination of these features compensates for the camber that the tire is subjected to when it is run flat.
