The intravascular stent is formed from a composite wire includes an inner core (12) of. radiopaque metal, a polymer layer (16) coaxially disposed abo.ut the inner core, and an outer metal layer (18) coaxially disposed about the polymer layer. The intermediary polymer layer acts as a barrier material between the inner core and the outer sheath, so that the inner core and outer sheath may be made of dissimilar metallic layers, and the intermediary polymer layer will prevent a galvanic reaction between the inner core and the peripheral metal layer. The intravascular stent (20) has ends (22, 24) flared radially outwardly to prevent radially and longitudinally inward deformation of the ends of the stent when the stent is disposed in a desired location in a patient's vasculature.

A method of manufacturing a thin wall isogrid or the like casing by a machining process comprising the steps of: mating a surface of a casing precursor (10,50) with a substantially continuous support surface (20,60) of a hollow support sleeve (18, 58); engaging an engagement surface (26, 66) of a deformation member (24, 64) with an engagement surface (22,62) of the support sleeve (18,58), the engagement surface (22, 62) of the support sleeve (18,58) being opposite the support surface (20,60) and the deformation member (24,64) being co-axially arranged with the support sleeve (18,58); axially displacing the support sleeve (18,58) and deformation member (24,64) relative to one another, the deformation member (24,64) engagement surface (22,62) and support sleeve (18,58) engagement surface (22,62) being configured such that the support sleeve (18,58) is deformed by the deformation member (24,64) by the relative axial displacement in order to mate the support surface (20,60) with substantially the whole of the surface (12) of the casing precursor (10,50) to be machined; and machining a plurality of recessed pockets in the said surface (12) of the casing precursor (10,50) opposite the surface (14,54) engaged by the said support sleeve (18,58); whereby the support sleeve (18,58) reacts loads acting on the casing precursor (10,50) by a machining tool during machining, thereby minimising distortion of the casing precursor (10,50) and tearing of the pockets being formed. |

The invention relates to a method for rotationally symmetrical machining of parts, specially crankshafts, more specifically bearing surfaces of crankshafts, until said parts are ready for use, i.e. a state in which no further material needs to be removed from the bearing surfaces of the crankshaft so that said crankshaft can be mounted in the engine. The aim of the invention is to simplify the removal of material during machining of bearing areas in a crankshaft. The inventive method enables rotational parts to be made ready for use by originally forming said parts and subsequently removing material by means of machining only involving specific cutting followed by finishing.

Prior to forming a thermal spray coating layer (28) on an end face (23B') of a structural base material (23') to be shaped into a boss, firstly an inner masking member (32) is fitted in an original hole (23A') of the structural base material (23') and then an outer masking member (33) is fitted on outer peripheral side of the structural base material (23'). In the next place, by the use of a hard material, a thermal spray coating layer (28) is formed on an annular coating area (23B1') which is exposed between the inner and outer masking members (32) and (33). Surface areas on the end face (23B') of the structural base material (23'), corresponding to an allowance range of a machining operation by which the original hole (23A') is ultimately shaped into a joint pin hole of a specified diameter, are left as a non-coating area (23B2') free of the thermal spray coating layer (28). Therefore, the original hole (23A') in the structural base material (23') can be machined into a final joint pin hole by means of a cutting tool, without experiencing cracking troubles which would otherwise occur to the thermal spray coating layer (28) during the machining operation. |

A method and apparatus for machining a matched set of fixed and orbiting scroll members (43,50) for use in a scroll compressor. The respective wrap surfaces (47,54) of the scroll members are simultaneously machined by respective rotating cutting tools (86,186). Specifically, rotational and linear movement of the fixed and orbiting scroll members together, synchronized with linear movement of the cutting tools, causes the simultaneous machining of the scroll members (43,50) along respective wrap surfaces (47,54) that form a radially inwardly moving sealing line of contact therebetween during compressor operation. Accordingly, any systemic or random deviation from a true involute form during machining of the matched scroll member set results in complementary deviations in the respective wrap surfaces, whereby a sealed relationship between the wrap surfaces is maintained at such point of deviation during compressor operation. |
