CONSTITUTION: As a chemical treatment, sulfuric acid or perchloric acid treatment is conducted, whereby the hydrophobic fiber surface of an artificial blood vessel raw material is oxidized to increase the number of hydroxyl groups so that the hydrophilicity is increased. As a physical treatment, plasma discharge processing or corona discharge processing is conducted, whereby high voltage frequency is generated from an electrode to activate an air layer in the periphery, and the fiber surface of the artificial blood vessel raw material is oxidized by ions or free radicals to increase the number of hydroxyl groups so that the hydrophilicity is increased. Subsequently, as to a biodegradable blood compatible material to be used for coating the fiber surface, cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, alginic acid or its salt, carboxylmethyl alginate, pectin, carageenan, chitin, and chitosan, xanthan gum, starch or denatured starch are used as a polysaccharide having a carboxyl group in the molecular chain or its derivative.
