CONSTITUTION: An odorless garlic extract drink is prepared by culturing Basidiomycetes (e.g. Cortinellus shiitake, Coriolus versicolor, Schizophyllum commune) in a medium containing raw or processed garlic juice, and decomposing the mycelia after ripening, thereby eluting the fungal component in the medium. Garlic contains a number of active enzymes and trace components; however, the use has been limited by the characteristic odor of allyl compounds existing in the allium plants, esp. in a raw state having high enzymatic activity. By the cultivation of Basidiomycets in a medium containing garlic, the characteristic odor of garlic is eliminated instantaneously and effectively to facilitate the pharmaceutical use of garlic and Basidiomycetes and give an odorless and nutritive drink perfectly free of uncomfortable feeling to the palate.
