A modular unit (1) for assembling seats comprises a plurality of elements (2) which are spatially complementary and can be grouped together about an axis (X-X). The elements (2) can be associated with respective portions of the seat to be produced and are rigidly connected together by means of a screw (14) which can extend through a longitudinal hole formed jointly by the grooves (5) in the elements (2). The rotation of the screw (14) causes a transverse sliding of two locking elements (10, 15) having inclined surfaces (16) which cooperate with respective sloped portions (8) of the elements (2) in order to urge the elements (2) into the state in which they are assembled about the axis (X-X).

A coupling element (3) is described for connecting two objects (1, 2) with each other, which coupling element (3) is provided with at least one receiving member (10) and an other member (18), which members are connected with each other by a flexible connecting member (17).

According to the invention the coupling element (3) is on the one hand provided with an open receiving member (10), which is connectable with the one object (2) and on the other hand provided with a hook-shaped member (18), which may engage on the other object (1).

A cushion member (10) of uniform thickness having a rectangular shape in plan view, with a center line (A-A) of the cushion member dividing same into two plan view square portions (12,13). The cushion member is segmented Into four isosceles right triangular sections (14, 15, 16, 17) arranged such that the two sections (15, 16) bounding the center line (A-A) coextensively abut along their corresponding legs and the two sections in each square portion coextensively abut one another along their hypotenuses, with the respective lines of abutment of the sections in the square portions intersecting at right angles. The segments are hingedly joined together. On one rectangular face of the cushion member the two sections bounding the center line (A-A) are hingedly joined in the plane of the one rectangular face. On the other rectangular face, the two sections in each square portion are hingedly joined in the plane of the other rectangular face. Such construction permits the segmented cushion member to be pivotally folded at its hinged joints and thereby to assume multiple furniture configurations.

nterchangeable arm (2) and armless (3) end frames include a common rear frame portion (16) joined to each respective front frame portion in butt wise fashion to give an integrated rather than tacked on appearance. The arm and armless end frames both have arcuately inturned rear portions (13,46) and the armless has a similar arcuately inturned front portion (12) for joining to front (4) and rear (5) cross supports. In contrast, the upwardly extending front leg (43) of the arm frame includes an inwardly projecting bracket (48) for joining to the front cross support (4) and a sleeve (70) on the bracket compensates for the length of the inturned front portion of the armless frame. In a modification including a table top (76), since the front and rear cross supports are at different levels, a levelling bracket (85) having triangular shaped sides (86) is mounted between the front and rear cross supports to support the table top level.

Group of elements (1) intended for composing furniture (3) and/or shielding (4) forming a system of modular blocks (5) each modular block (5) having a block shape, with a top face (6) and a bottom face (7) and with side faces (8) between the bottom face (7) and the top face (6) and wherein this system of modular blocks (5) comprises at least one or more blocks (9) which are wall blocks (9) which can be placed in an upright position while standing alone on a floor, the concerned wall block (9) forming in that upright position a wall or screen (4).

Such settee structure allows therefore to arrange according to a desired configuration each of the seat elements (4, 5) so as to obtain the wanted shape.
