An upholstered furniture system for mounting on a horizontal surface is disclosed. The system comprises vertical arm members (22, 24), side support members are affixed to the inner surfaces (21) of the arm members for removably supporting a seat member. Support elements (62) are affixed to the back portions of the inner surfaces of the arm member and a back member (26) is interposed between the arm members. The back member (26) includes an outer back part having outer back part side members (84) supported on the support elements and a horizontal top rail (94) extending between the side members. An inner back part (87) is provided having inner back part side members (90) and a horizontal inner back part top rail (92) between the side members. A hinge (106) connects both top rails to permit rotation of the inner back part about a horizontal axis parallel to the back top rails. The rotation of the inner back part about the horizontal axis brings the inner back part into contact with support elements limiting the rotation of the inner back part. | ||||||

A chaise lounge recliner chair (300) which incorporates an intermediate leg support member (312) for providing support to the thighs and areas behind the knees of the legs of an occupant of the chair. The intermediate leg support member (312) is connected to a portion of the seat (306) of the recliner chair and a portion of the leg rest member (310) of the chair. When the leg rest member (310) is in an extended position the intermediate leg support member (312) provides a normal slightly convex support surface. As the seat back (302) of the chair is reclined, it causes the seat member (306) to be extended outwardly which causes the intermediate leg support member (312) to assume a pronounced convex surface. A plurality of elastic straps (324) are further included and disposed between the seat (306) and leg rest members (310) to prevent the intermediate leg rest member (312) from crowning downwardly relative to the chair frame when the leg rest member (310) is in it extended position. |

A modular system is described which uses the combination of frustums (30, 32, 34) of polygonal pyramids interlocked to form three-dimensional polyhedra. The polygonal pyramids are regular and have substantially identical unit base lengths (a) which permits a variety of three-dimensional display structures to be used by combining different frustums of polygonal pyramids. In a preferred application the frustums are hollow to permit a plurality of recesses (30, 40) inthe three-dimensional structure for displaying objects and the base units can be held together by clips (60) without the use of tools to permit rapid and easy assembly. In addition, the units can be easily disassembled and stacked or packed flat to facilitate transport and storage. |
