188 modular upholstered furniture EP04020954.6 2004-09-03 EP1512349A1 2005-03-09 Osborne, Stephen

The invention relates to the provision of an item of upholstered furniture and specifically, the provision of the item of furniture formed from a series of modular units which when joined together, form the item of furniture in the required configuration. The series of modular units are formed at the point of manufacture and then transported as separate units to the location of use, whereupon the modular units can be assembled together to form the item of furniture. The provision of the modular units for transport ensures that more efficient and cost effective transport procedures can be used thereby reducing the cost of transport to the manufacturer, improving the speed of delivery and the efficient receipt of the furniture in a manner which can be easily assembled at the point of use.

193 MODULAR AUFBAUBARE SITZBANK EP98941661.5 1998-09-23 EP1032292B1 2003-01-29 FOSTER, Norman, Foster and Partners
The invention relates to a bench having a modular structure and comprising several seats, which rests on a longitudinal beam (1) supported on feet (2). An individual seat is formed by a seat panel (4) which can be complemented by a backrest (6) and lateral armrests (7), as well as table tops (5). Benches of this kind can be used, for example, in airports and ferry terminals as well as long-distance train stations. The seat panels (4), backrests (6) and table tops (5) are removably fixed to the longitudinal beam (1) by means of holding plates (3, 3'). The feet (2) and armrests (7) are removably fixed directly to the longitudinal beam (1). The longitudinal beam (1) extends along the full length of the bench, consists preferably of a double-walled aluminium hollow profile and has a regular, triangular cross-section with three longitudinal side faces (10, 11, 12) as well as lateral grooves (13, 14, 15) situated in the area of the edges. The holding plates (3, 3') are pieces of a U-shaped sections cut to the required length. A holding plate (3) connected to a seat panel (4) or a table top (5) rests on the upper, first side face (10) of the longitudinal beam (1), while a holding plate (3') connected to a backrest (6) contacts the rear, i.e. third, side face (10) of the longitudinal beam (1). The principal advantages of the bench provided for in the invention are its variable configuration, the fact that it can be assembled at the place of use and that functional units can be easily replaced. Considerably less transport space is required for the delivery of unassembled functional units.

200 MULTI-FUNCTIONAL UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE SYSTEM. EP94912372 1994-03-31 EP0651618A4 1995-08-16 FRANK JEFFREY A; LAUGHLIN GLENN M; HIRSCHHAUT BRUCE
An upholstered furniture system for mounting on a horizontal surface is disclosed. The system comprises vertical arm members (22, 24), side support members are affixed to the inner surfaces (21) of the arm members for removably supporting a seat member. Support elements (62) are affixed to the back portions of the inner surfaces of the arm member and a back member (26) is interposed between the arm members. The back member (26) includes an outer back part having outer back part side members (84) supported on the support elements and a horizontal top rail (94) extending between the side members. An inner back part (87) is provided having inner back part side members (90) and a horizontal inner back part top rail (92) between the side members. A hinge (106) connects both top rails to permit rotation of the inner back part about a horizontal axis parallel to the back top rails. The rotation of the inner back part about the horizontal axis brings the inner back part into contact with support elements limiting the rotation of the inner back part.
