PURPOSE: To easily change a pitch of a propeller by assembling an adjusting device for a changeable pitch propeller in a propeller hub, and operating the adjusting member by a hand-operated handle. CONSTITUTION: On the downstream side 10 of a variable pitch propeller, on a hub 11 part of the propeller, an adjusting device having a handle 15 protruded from the hub 11 is fixed. The handle 5 is pulled by spring force to a spindle nut 45. As the spindle nut 45 to adjust an inclination angle of a propeller blade 25 moves in an axial line direction, a pin 47 of the handle 15 gets apart from the spindle nut 45 to be returned to a mating flange 40 to set the nut 45 freely rotatable. As the spindle nut 45 is rotated, the nut 45, a flange 40, and a push rod 33 simultaneously slide to provide rotation to an adjusting plate 27 and the propeller blade 25, so a pitch is changed. The adjusting device is then fixed again by the handle 15.

Pitch adjustment in a feathering propeller employing a planet gear engagement between a pinion-hub (1-3) keyed on the drive shaft (2) and planet pinions (5) at the base of the blades (4) of the propeller which are rotatably mounted through holes of the wall of a hub's casing (6) may be easily performed manually by registering the relative angular position of a second portion (7) of casing in respect to a first portion (6) of the casing housing the planet gear. The registration of the pitch takes place by parting said second portion (7) of casing from said first portion (6) against the resistance of a push-back spring (17) for a distance sufficient to disengage a coupling (12-13) between said second portion (7) and said first portion (6) of the casing or said pinion-hub (1-3), rotating said second portion (7) so disengaged in respect to the first portion (6) of the casing before releasing the pull causing again the engagement of the two portions in a modified relative angular position. In this way the stop means for the travel of a dragging sector (8) solidly connected to the hub (1) of the propeller, which are substantially formed on the internal wall of said second portion of the casing, change their relative angular position about the sector (8) thus modifying the limit orientation assumed by the blades (4) when the drive shaft (2) is rotated. Resilient elements are used between abutment surfaces for preventing deformation thereof.

A system that allows a boat propeller to maintain a constant blade speed by varying the pitch of the propeller in order to allow the boat's motor to operate at an optimum RPM. The system includes a governor that sends hydraulic fluid to an annular piston, which in turn controls the pitch of the boat propeller blades so that the torque experienced by the engine is kept approximately constant.

An adjustable pitch boat propeller system adapted for mounting on a drive shaft of a marine drive unit of a boat. The propeller includes an hub that has been adapted for mounting over the drive shaft of the boat, the hub having an external surface and internal annular surface. An annular piston is mounted against the internal annular surface and connected to a plurality of blades which are pivotally connected to the external surface of the hub by way of a linkage that allows pivoting the plurality of blades in response to movements of the annular piston.

The invention relates to a propeller assembly, particularly suitable for use with axial flow pumps. The propeller assembly is provided with a cam-operated rotatable propeller blade compression shaft which rotates in response to a detected increase load on the propeller blade. An elongated rod connected to a power source transmits movement to a spring which, in turn, transmits the movement to the cam. To accommodate tilting of the propeller blade during changing of the pitch, a hub outer surface is formed convex and the inner surface of the enclosing shroud is formed concave. The radii of curvature of the hub and the shroud are generally complementary to the radius of curvature of the inner and outer surfaces of the propeller blade, respectively.

A variable pitch propeller is fixed to a guide body pivotable about an axis and can be raised above the water surface by its pivoting about the axis. An adjusting device jointly rotating with the hub of variable pitch propeller and positioned on that hub can be set or adjusted without difficulty by a rotatable handle to adjust the pitch of the propeller blades in accordance with the intended travel mode, whereby a detectable fuel saving can be achieved.

Marine propellers are constructed with a split-hub design, permitting adjustment of the pitch of the blades, and axial removability of the blade. By virtue of the axial removability of the blades, blades can be removed easily for repair or replacement without increasing the diametral clearance between the blade tips and a tunnel or nozzle of the type in which propellers are frequently disposed. Also, individual blades can be removed without the necessity of dropping the rudder, which is necessary in many vessels utilizing solid propellers. The blades have their spindles or roots clamped in the hub, such that axial adjustment of pitch can be achieved by reducing the clamping force. The hub preferably is formed in two sections, one section being mounted to or forming part of the propeller shaft, and including recesses which partially house the blade spindles or roots. The other section preferably is made up of a plurality of independently removable clamping segments, each of which is formed with a recess which cooperates with a recess in the first section to house a blade spindle, and clamp the spindle in a fixed blade pitch position. By removal of a selected clamping segment, its blade can be removed axially rearwardly without necessitating substantial diametral clearance at the blade tips. Bolted connections are used between the clamping segments and the first section of the hub so as to facilitate both pitch adjustment and blade removal.

PURPOSE: To assuredly and easily operate a device by connecting and locking blades in the device for a propeller of a vessel or the like to a boss main body under pressure and supplying high pressure oil so as to temporarily loosen a press connection and adjust the blades. CONSTITUTION: The flanges 4 of blades 3 are connected to a support disk 5 in a boss 1 by internally inserting a plurality of distortion bolts 6. Then, the blade flanges 4 are locked to the support disk 5 by fitting pins 8. Thus, a structural group 4/5 is locked to the boss 1 under a frictional connection. Pins 11 and sliders 12 for rotating the support disk 5 are arranged in the grooves of adjusting yokes 13. A piston 14 forming a servo motor is connected to the adjusting yokes 13. Then, high pressure oil is introduced to parts between the blade flanges 4 and the support disk 5 through a high pressure oil hole 17 and a high pressure hose 18 to temporarily loosen a lock and adjust the blades 3 by the servo motor.
