A vehicle body structure is provided to effectively absorb collision load in the whole vehicle body by allowing the collision load applied to a rear end cross member to be transferred to a side member and simultaneously to be transferred to a pillar through a connecting bar, a body side bar, and a side door bar. A vehicle body structure comprises a side member(1) extending lengthwise along a vehicle at a lower part of the vehicle, and a pillar(9) vertically extending. A side body bar is disposed above the side member at a side part of the vehicle and extends lengthwise along the vehicle to be in contact with the pillar. A connecting bar(16) connects the side member to the side body bar. A side door(8) is disposed between the pillar and the side member in a length direction of the vehicle. The side body bar includes a side door bar(20) installed at the side door and a body side bar(10) connecting the side door bar to the connecting bar.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase an absorption amount of a collision load at the time of rear-end collision while restraining the total length of an automobile from getting longer and longer in a vehicle body structure of the automobile. SOLUTION: The vehicle body structure of the automobile is equipped with a rear cross member 2A for connecting a rear side member 1, a body side bar 10 connected to the rear cross member 2A through a connecting bar 16, a rear side door 8 positioned in front of the body side bar 10, and a center pillar 9 positioned in front of the rear side door 8. A side door bar 20 is provided on the rear side door 8, and the side door bar 20 transmits the load to the vehicle front direction from the body side bar 10 to the center pillar 9. Therefore, the collision load input to the rear end cross member 2A in the rear-end collision is transmitted from the rear end cross member 2A to the rear side member 2A, and also transmitted to the center pillar 9 through the connecting bar 16, the body side bar 10 and the side door bar 20. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a holding device for a preliminary wheel so that the wheel can turn through an optimum turning area as it is released from a rear flap, and so that each support device is made up of component members capable of being easily assembled together and additionally mounted and positioned in a vehicle body as they are almost covered. SOLUTION: The holding device 1 has holding arms 3 and 4 projecting from a wheel holder 2 and spaced apart from each other. The holding arms are connected at their respective ends to support devices 5 and 6 held against a vehicle body to form a vertically extending axis 7 of revolution which is disposed irrespective of the axis of revolution of the rear flap. The wheel holder 2 can turn about the axis of revolution toward a fixed position I at the rear of the vehicle and is held against the holding element 51 of an impact-absorbing transverse arm 53 via a support member 52 and is disposed in a released position II where it can turn free of the rear flap.
