10 Automatic central buffer coupling US12000132 2007-12-10 US20080277366A1 2008-11-13 Andreas Kemper
The invention relates to an automatic central buffer coupling having a coupling head, a coupling rod and a shock absorber including a destructively-configured force-absorbing member in the form of a deformable tube. The invention provides additional functionality of extendability and retractability to the coupling rod, the and for the central buffer coupling to include a controllable linear drive for the axial displacement of the coupling rod relative the fixing plate and for the bearing block to include a first bearing block component against which adjoins the coupling head-side end of the deformable tube, and a second bearing block component to which the vehicle-side end of the coupling rod is articulated, whereby the second bearing block component is axially displaceable relative the first bearing block component by means of the linear drive.
11 Central buffer coupling US11002494 2004-12-02 US20050121404A1 2005-06-09 Rainer Sprave
A central buffer coupling for coupling a first rail car body with a second, adjacent rail car body of a multiple-unit rail vehicle, has a coupling head pivotally connected by a coupling shaft to a linking housing of the rail car body, and a pivoting unit pivoting the coupling shaft. The pivoting unit has a guide participating in horizontal pivoting of the shaft that runs about a vertical pivot axis. Pressure surfaces symmetrical to the longitudinal axis of the shaft which correspond to a respective pressure device, bring about horizontal re-centering of the shaft. The respective pressure devices are supported on the linking housing of the shaft to bias the related pressure surfaces against the guide. The guide is positionable with the action-linked coupling shaft in every position of the planned pivot region, via an activation device. In order to have the pivoting unit not be in engagement during traveling operation and thereby be unaffected by pivoting-out movements of the coupling shaft, the activation device pushes a guide pin guided by way of a contour into a guide driver. Because the driver is then connected with the bearing pin, the coupling shaft pivots.
12 Device for horizontal resetting to center for a central buffer coupling arranged pivotably by means of a coupling shaft on a rail-borne vehicle US10322931 2002-12-18 US06805251B2 2004-10-19 Christian Radewagen; Antony Jones
A device (1) is provided for horizontal resetting to center for a central buffer coupling arranged pivotably by a coupling shaft (2) on a rail-borne vehicle. The device has a guide (3) following the pivoting movement of the coupling shaft (2) around its vertical pivot axis. The device has pressing surfaces (4) provided symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the coupling shaft (2), and has a pressing device (7), with parts supported against an articulated housing (5) for the coupling shaft and bringing about the horizontal resetting to center. The pressing device acts permanently or switches off or can be switched off depending on the pivot angle or can be actuated by a pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically operated actuating device. To facilitate especially the coupling in tight curves or to make it possible in the first place, the actuating device is designed as a remote-controllable adjusting drive (11). The adjusting drive acts on the guide (3) and consequently the coupling shaft (2) that is functionally connected thereto to position the same into any position of the intended horizontal range of pivoting of the coupling shaft (2) in the flow of forces via the device (1) for resetting to center.
13 Energy-absorbing device for the end of rail vehicles US10159168 2002-05-30 US06685040B2 2004-02-03 Andreas Heinisch; Eckart J{haeck over (a)}de; Frank Reineck
An energy-absorbing device for the end of rail vehicles is provided. In order in particular to reduce the cost of adaptation and matching between vehicle manufacturers and suppliers of the energy-absorbing device and the couplings (3) and the design and/or quality risks, the energy-absorbing device exhibits a base frame (1) which carries all the proposed elements for energy absorption in the end area and which is fastened as a compact preassembled module to the sub-frame (9) entirely in the defined interface area.
14 Longitudinally adjustable coupling rod US628583 1996-04-04 US5687860A 1997-11-18 Hans-Hermann Behrens; Hubert Rathner; Klaus Ksienzyk; Dieter Schillings
A longitudinally adjustable coupling rod for central buffer couplings of rail-borne vehicles. The coupling rod has a longitudinally adjustable section, which is formed by four shear elements fastened to a support body in an articulated manner. Two shear elements form front shears and two shear elements form rear shears. The two shear elements of the rear shears are associated extensively mirror-symmetrically with the shear elements of the front shears. The shear elements of each of the shears, which are arranged opposite each other, are connected to one another in their front area by hinges.
15 Coupler positioning device for sliding sill cushion underframe cars US33663873 1973-02-28 US3809251A 1974-05-07 CHIERICI O; WINTERS F
A railroad car coupler positioning device of the general type disclosed in Chierici U.S. Pat. No. 3,642,149 that is arranged specifically for use in connection with sliding sill cushion underframe cars, in which the coupler is connected to either end of a command or swing lever by an essentially uncushioned cable connection, with the connecting cables being trained over sheaves at the respective ends of the swing lever for connection to a shock absorbing device carried by the sliding sill that is independent of the primary sliding sill cushioning device. The cables are tensioned against the action of the shock absorber to provide the desired flexion free linkage between the swing lever and the coupler for coupler positioning purposes, and while buff and draft movement of the sill relative to the underframe results in automatic slack take up and slack let out in the cables without effecting their tension, the shock absorbing device acts to cushion the cables against the action of buff and draft movement of the coupler relative to the sill.
16 Buffer coupling US3684105D 1970-07-22 US3684105A 1972-08-15 SCHARFENBERG WALTER
A central buffer coupling for rail vehicles having a series connected buffer gear includes a pivot pin which is supported on a rail vehicle in a vertical position. A coupling head including a buffer gear has a connecting arm, which is universally supported on the pivot pin for vertical and horizontal deflection. A support arm of U-shaped configuration is carried at the lower end of the pivot pin and a leaf spring has one end connected to the support arm end and an opposite end connected to the coupling head and it extends substantially in a longitudinal buffer direction. The spring urges the coupling head with the buffer gear continuously into a center position in respect to vertical deflection. A feature of the construction is the provision of an adjustable rest which is carried on the support arm and which may be adjusted to bear against the leaf spring and support it in the extended position. The construction eliminates stress on the pivot when the suspension slacks and the horizontal position of the coupling is restored by the simple adjusting means which bears upwardly on the leaf spring.
