The invention relates to a seat-operating system for moving the individual parts of vehicle seats, especially reclining vehicle seats which consist of a plurality of displaceably interconnected foot parts, sitting areas and back rests and optionally, head rests, these parts being delimited as they move in or out of the sitting or reclined position. The inventive system is characterised in that the vehicle seat is fitted to the floor of the vehicle (1) on a frame (3) which can be displaced about a fixed or moveable axis (2), or on an appropriately adjustable frame (3) in such a way that in its lower position, said frame, together with the foot part (5), sitting area (6) and back rest (7), forms the seat. In a raised position, the frame (3) forms a parallel surface for lying down, together with the floor of the vehicle (1) and the foot part (5), sitting area (6) and back rest (7), said surface being in the form of a fold-out unit (10, 11). An alternative embodiment of the inventive system is characterised in that braces (13) are fitted to the vehicle seat in three places; on the foot part (5), especially at the bottom end of the foot part (5), on the sitting surface (6) and on the folding point (11) of the back rest (7). Said braces are connected to clamping and moving units (14) which position the foot part (5), the sitting surface (6) and the back rest (7) between these points and which are guided on a tensioning frame (15).

PURPOSE: An automatic folding apparatus for a seat of an electric rail car is provided to make the best use of space and to improve transport efficiency and convenience by folding the passenger seat with operating a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder through remote control. CONSTITUTION: A backrest(20) of a seat is placed perpendicularly to a lower plate(21) of the seat in a connecting portion, and combined with the lower plate by a rotating plate to fold or unfold the lower plate. A driven gear(30) is fastened at the side of the rotating shaft, and a rack(41) is combined with the end of a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder(40). The hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder is reciprocated linearly by using compressed air of hydraulic pressure from an electric rail car. The lower plate is folded or unfolded against the backrest by turning the driven gear engaged with the rack.
