141 Device to assist in holding a playing record to clean the same and the method of using the same US711653 1976-08-04 US4084824A 1978-04-18 Christopher G. Kalivas
A device to assist in holding a playing record in the form of a thumb cover providing at its closed end a hook element for insertion into the center hole of a playing record, thus facilitating the holding of the record between the hook element and the opposed ends of the remaining fingers of the hand to dispose the record for cleaning the same with the other hand; and the method of using the device.
142 Record protection system US597371 1975-07-18 US4030138A 1977-06-14 James Hillier
To protect a record, such as a video disc, from damage due to finger contact with the recorded area, a pair of finger holes are provided adjacent the centering aperture of the record. The record player and the package used for shipping or storing the record are each provided with a well for receiving the record. The spacing between a wall portion defining the edge of the well and the outer periphery of the record is such that the outer periphery of the record is not directly accessible, thereby constraining a user to handling the record by the finger holes. The player and the package are each provided with a finger cavity located underneath the finger holes regardless of the rotational orientation of the record when the record is in the well, in order to permit a sufficient penetration of the fingers so that the record may be firmly grasped for removal from the well.
143 System for preventing erasure of audio recordings US580149 1975-05-23 US3979770A 1976-09-07 Albert F. Wild
A system prevents erasure of audio material pre-recorded on a magnetic recording strip on a card or photograph. Erasure of any selected portion of the recording strip is prevented by securing material to the card or photograph to thicken the card or photograph along the length of the magnetic strip that is not to be erased. The thickened portion of the card cannot be inserted into or moved along a slot in a magnetic eraser, and the thickened portion of the card is detected in a recording machine for disabling the record mode of the recorder to prevent recording over the portion of the magnetic strip that should not be erased. The material thickening the card is preferably secured to the face of the card opposite the face bearing the magnetic strip.
144 Process for inverting an endless belt-type recording belt US571495 1975-04-25 US3950481A 1976-04-13 George L. Lange
A process for reversing the sides of a wide endless type recording belt comprising the steps of passing one edge of the belt through the interior of the belt, bending the said belt at a particular point on the belt and rotating the entire belt around the bent point until the belt is completely inverted. Two similar processes are disclosed, one leaving a slight protrusion formed by the bending of said belt and the other leaving a slight indentation in the belt after inverting the same.
145 Record handling device US3558169D 1968-07-29 US3558169A 1971-01-26 ONANIAN RICHARD A
A DEVICE FOR PICKING UP INDIVIDUAL PHONOGRAPH RECORDS FROM A STACK OF RECORDS AND FOR HOLDING THE SELECTED RECORD SO THAT THE FINGERS DO NOT TOUCH THE PLAYING SURFACE OF THE RECORD, CONSISTS OF A FOLD OF RIGID MATERIAL WHICH DEFINES AN OPEN ENVELOPE THE TWO SIDES OF WHICH ARE NOT IN REGISTRY SO THAT EACH DOES NOT COVER THE OTHER AND AS A RESULT A PORTION OF EACH SIDE EXTENDS BEYOND THE EDGE OF THE OTHER SIDE. THE EXTENDING PORTION OF EACH SIDE OF THE FOLD, CALLED A TAB, TAPERS TO A KNIFE-LIKE EDGE SO THAT ONE TAB CAN READILY BE PLACED ALONG THE TOP EDGE OF A SELECTED RECORD, THEN THE HOLDER IS TURNED SO THAT THE OTHER TAB SLIDES UNDER THE SELECTED RECORD AND THE HOLDER IS THEN PUSHED ONTO THE RECORD UNTIL THE EDGE OF THE RECORD ABUTS THE BACK OF THE HOLDER.

There is provided a medium processing device such as a CD publisher having a function as a media library. When a data write request or an additional write request is made, a CD publisher (5) extracts media (11A, 11B) from a media storage unit (12), sets them in a media drive (13), writes data, and stores them in a written media storage unit (19). When a data reference or an output request is made, the CD publisher (5) acquires the object medium (11B) from the media storage unit (19) according to the storage content of the storage unit (17) and sets it in the media drive (13). It is possible to reference the data in the medium (11B) from outside and to use the medium having the written data as a media library. When the last additional write is complete or an eject instruction of the medium (11B) is made, labels of data written on the label surface (11a) of the medium (11B) are printed at once before the medium (11B) is ejected.

A media treatment device for an optical disc publisher, capable of efficiently disposing media such as defective CDs without using manpower. To produce a medium by an optical disc publisher (5), a blank medium (14) received in a feeding side stacker (13) is taken out by a media conveyance mechanism (12) and conveyed to a media drive (15), and predetermined data are written on the medium. A printing surface of the medium where the data are normally written is subjected to printing by a label printer (19). The medium after the production is stored in a storage side stacker (22). The recording surface of a defective medium having a write failure is mechanically destroyed by a media disposal mechanism (23) while the medium is moved on a medium tray (71) of the printer (19), thereby the data are not readable. The medium after the above process is discharged from a media discharge opening (25).

Date May 17, 1996An apparatus for holding a compact disk has a base portion and resilient inwardly extending radial arms, cantilevered from the base portion; the inner ends of the arms form a button-like member receivable in the central hole of the disk so that pressure applied to any one or more of the inner ends of the arms flexes each of the arms toward the base portion to move the inner ends of the arms toward each other sufficiently to release the button-like member from the disk. Lips on the button-like member retain the disk by engaging on the outer surface of the disk. Resilient ejection means may be provided to urge the compact disk out of engagement with the button-like member, and disk support means may be on the base portion to support the disk at positions away from the central hole of the disk. The apparatus may be formed as a one-piece plastics molding as a tray for insertion in a box or as part of a wall of a video style library box.
