537,477. Plate heat exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Dec. 19, 1939, No. 32502. Convention date, Dec 23, .1938. [Class 64 (iii)] In a heat exchanger intended particularly for heating milk and consisting of plates so pressed as to form with intermediate plane plates continuous zigzag channels g extending from corner to corner of the plates, which are grooved at their edges to receive packing rings d, to prevent short circuiting between the limbs of the channels, each plane plate is formed with projections i to close the depressions a in the pressed plates corresponding to the pressed-out portions bounding the packing grooves.

502,819. Plate heat-exchangers. GOODMAN, H.F., and ALUMINIUM PLANT & VESSEL CO., Ltd. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25969. [Class 64 (iii)] The margins of the plates or spacing frames of a heat-exchanger are formed with grooves for packing strips 7, 8, Figs. 1, 4, pressed &c. in the opposite sides thereof. Similar packing grooves are provided around the transfer ports 18. Grooved frames may be interposed between corrugated plates 1, Fig. 2, having flat margins and abutting projections 20. In a modification, the exchanger is formed of corrugated plates, the margins of alternate plates being formed on one side with grooves for packing strips 7, Fig. 5, partly surrounding the transfer ports 18 at the top lefthand and the bottom right-hand corners of the plates, and on the opposite side with grooves for strips 8 partly surrounding the remaining ports 18. At the places 30, 32 where the grooves on opposite sides of the plates cross one another, they are of half the normal depth. Metal inserts 54, Fig. 9, are welded &c. to the plates to support the packings or the grooves at certain points.

490,994. Plate heat - exchangers. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Jan. 8, 1938, No. 622. Convention date, Jan. 8, 1937. [Class 64 (iii)] The plates of a heat-exchanger or pasteurizer are provided with corrugated ribs 2 forming channels the crosssectional area of which alternately increase and diminish. In a modification. a sinuous channel is formed between adjacent plates by ribs 4, Fig. 2, and the channel is subdivided by ribs 14.

433,004. Plate heat - exchangers. JENSEN, S. J., Ny Bjerrevej, Dagnaes-by- Horsens, Denmark. June 27, 1934, No. 19045. [Class 64 (iii)] A heat-exchanger comprises flat bands 4 wound spirally and clamped between circular plates 6 by bolts running the length of the apparatus, communicating ports between the channels thus formed being provided in the plates 6. The bands 4 are made of rustless steel. The stand 7 of the apparatus may contain hot water for use in the heat-exchanger. The bands 4 form a pair of channels in heatexchange relation between each pair of plates 6 except for the two spaces on the left hand of the figure in which only single channels are formed. Raw milk enters at inlet 23 and flows through two sets of channels in which it is heated by milk already heated in the apparatus. It then passes through outlet 27 to a centrifugal separator. The milk enters again at port 24 and flows through the left hand side of the apparatus where it is first heated by hot water circulated from the tank 7 and then flows through the single channels where its temperature remains practically constant. The milk then passes through connection 29 to the right hand side of the apparatus and first heats incoming milk and then is cooled by heat exchange with a cooling fluid before leaving the apparatus through aperture 25. The plates 6 are covered on both sides with indiarubber which may be grooved to receive the edges of bands 4.
