CONSTITUTION: A fucusing optical system 4 is provided between a pulse laser 2 and a pressure-resistant glass window 8. If with this arrangement the pulse laser 2 is oscillated, laser beams are focused by the focusing optical system 4, after which they reflect on a scanning mirror 6 and reflecting mirror 7, then transmit through a pressure-resistant glass window 8. The beams are then radiated as a large beam diameter to the subject object 9 floating in water. The reflected light from the subject object 9 transmits through the through-hole 7a of the reflecting mirror 7 and is imaged on the input surface of an image converter 12 by an imaging lens. As a shutter driving mechanism 14 is operated with a delay by the signal from the pulse laser 2, the image is recorded in a camera 13. Hence, the energy density at the underwater incidence of the laser beams becomes lower and the energy losses owing to the scatting and absorption in water are reduced, thus good underwater photographing is accomplished.
