This is used in a part corresponding to the electrolyte chamber in a conventional device. That is, a container is composed of a glass substrate 11 coated with display electrode 12 made of conductive transparent film and a protective cover 16, and a porous substrate 14 holding electrolyte 15 is disposed in contact with the display electrode 12, and a counter electrode 13 is fitted to the back of the substrate 14. Thus, the display device is constituted.
