CONSTITUTION: An insect, especially coleopterous vermin such as Cupreous chafer or soybean beetle is biologically controlled by using an insect-parasitic nematode, Steinernema spp. (OJ-N1), found in the soil of natural condition in Japan. The nematode OJ-N1 exhibits an insecticidal effect as high as about 2W90times that of conventional nematode against coleopterous vermin against which conventional nematode has low insecticidal effect. The present nematode can survive over a long period in the soil under the natural condition of Japan. Since it can be artificially cultured in large quantity, it can be used as a biological controlling means of commercial base. The vermin-controlling effect can be further improved by combining the present nematode OJ-N1 with fermented compost such as bark compost or other soil conditioner.
