CONSTITUTION: A selective acetanilide herbicide containing 2,6-dimethyl-N-(2'- thiazolymethyl)-chloroacetainilide as an active component. The compound can be prepared easily by reacting 2-chloromethylthiazole with 2,6-dimethylaniline, and then reacting the resultant compound with monochloroacetyl chloride by conventional method. The herbicidal agent has remarkably improved herbicidal activity aginst gramineus weeds such as cockspur-grass, large crab-grass, etc., broad-leaved weeds such as smooth pigweed, cocklebur, etc., and cyperaceous weeds. It is safe to leguminous crops such as soybeans, kidney beans, peanut, pea, etc., and rape, lettuce, beet, etc., and gives low phytotoxicity.
