CONSTITUTION: An expellent against a soil injurious organism comprising a compound of the formula (X is Cl or Br; n is an integer 1W3) as an active constituent. The compound can be readily prepared by reacting thiophene with a halogeno-substituted acetyl chloride or the corresponding acid anhydride or halogenating the side chain of 2-acetylthiophene. The compound of the formula is mixed with various carriers etc. according to the use thereof and can be readily formulated into any dosage form of an emulsion, granule or wettable powder by the conventional technique for preparing agricultural chemicals. The expellent against a soil injurious organism exhibits a remarkable effect on a root knot nematode and a fungus of the genus Fusarium causing much damage to crops without phytotoxicity to crops such as tomatoes and cucumbers.
