An arrangement structure is provided for a canister of a saddle type vehicle wherein a canister can be arranged closely to a fuel tank to simplify a pipe arrangement structure. A fuel tank disposed forward of an engine is structured such that a tank upper half and a tank lower half of a concave shape formed by pressing are joined together at joining flanges. The joining flanges are disposed on a vehicle body such that a front portion thereof is positioned on the upper side. A rear inclined wall, which is inclined toward a rear upper direction such that it forms a substantially right angle to the joining flange, is provided at a rear portion of the tank lower half. A canister is disposed in a dead space below the rear inclined wall.

The fuel tank and the canister are arranged with respect to the engine such that the bulging portion of the storage box is sandwiched between the fuel tank canister and the engine. It is possible to arrange the canister away from the engine by a distance corresponding to the bulging portion and hence, it is possible to reduce influence of heat from the engine exerted on the canister.

A fuel pump mounting structure has an opening in a side surface or a bottom surface of a fuel tank. A fuel pump assembly including a cylindrical pump body and a filter connected to a suction side of the pump body is accommodated in a space located inside of the opening. A flange section of a housing that encloses the pump body engages an outside surrounding area of the opening. A mounting plate covers the outside of the flange section. The fuel pump assembly is fixed to the opening through the flange section and the mounting plate. The axis of the pump body extends generally parallel to a mounting surface of the mounting plate, and the pump body and the filter overlap each other relative to a position in a direction of the axis. The mounting structure reduces the moment against the mounting plate, reliably supports the fuel pump under a stable condition without requiring a large and rigid construction, and improves the seal with the fuel tank.

The fuel pump is configured to be interconnected between the rearward end of the coil reel and a fuel tank through a tee connector. A handle is attached proximate the forward end of the coil reel. The nozzle can be configured with a one way valve to prevent fuel from draining when the coil reel is not in use. A coil box can be provided for the coil reel. An on/off valve, such as a petcock valve, is interconnected between the connector tee and a carburetor. An on/off switch can be interconnected to the fuel pump to enable remote operation of the fuel pump.

The vacuum fuel cut valve 12 has a fuel inlet port 36 connected to a fuel suction pipe 37, a fuel outlet pipe 28, and a vacuum chamber connected to an intake pipe 21a connected to the cylinder 21 of the engine 5. The pulse-driven fuel pump 13 is provided with a fuel suction pipe 25 connected to the fuel outlet pipe 28 of the vacuum fuel cut valve 12. When a negative pressure pulse is applied to the vacuum fuel cut valve 12, the vacuum fuel cut valve 12 opens to supply fuel to the carburetors 16 and 17.
