Sometimes when attempting to remove the draft key from an E-type railway car coupler, it is difficult to connect the key pulling device to the key without disconnecting the trainline. A simple key pulling device which solves this problem includes a pair of parallel hydraulic cylinders, a yoke interconnecting one end of the cylinders, piston rods extending out of such one end of the cylinders, a socket in the yoke, and separate jaws for removable mounting in the socket and for connecting the pulling device to a key, whereby the jaws can be independently mounted on the head of a key and then connected to the yoke, extension of the piston rods against the coupler causing outward movement of the cylinders, yoke and jaws to pull the key from the coupler. |

A pin puller for extracting the main connector pin from an articulated connection such as in articulated railroad cars has concentric inner and outer sleeves relatively translatable by a hydraulic ram. The inner sleeve has legs which rest on top of the female articulated connector, straddling the main connector pin. The legs define a slot and support a platform. The outer sleeve has a cylindrical skirt which houses a boss, and is closed on top by a cover. The skirt and boss carry a first pin for connecting a yoke. The yoke has a second pin which connects to a loop in the top of the main connector pin. The ram rests on the platform and pushes the outer sleeve cover upwardly, causing the yoke and main connector pin to move upwardly also. The yoke can be interchanged with another yoke to accommodate other applications. |

A disconnect tool for use with a plurality of vehicles powered by a source of high voltage electricity and method of disconnecting high voltage equipment, which disconnect tool comprises a disconnect means for moving a coupling between a coupled position and an uncoupled position, an elongated disconnect member of lightweight rigid construction having a non-conductive shaft and a non-conductive coating, including a non-conductive handle, a non-conductive shaft and a non-conductive hook means for engaging the coupling, and including a non-conductive surface layer for preventing high voltage from passing from the transit vehicle to the handles of the user. The method of disconnecting comprises coupling a first vehicle to a second vehicle, mechanically engaging the first coupling means manually grasping an elongated disconnect tool, moving the disconnect lever between a connected position and a disconnected position by pulling the disconnect tool outwardly. |
