It is known that when information is given in a motor vehicle, in particular optically, the driver is distracted in such a way that an accident can easily happen. The disclosed device allows the unlimited optical display of information for passengers without distracting the driver and at the same time prevents information from being optically displayed to the driver while the vehicle is moving. If the vehicle is stopped, all functions are available without limitation. For that purpose, detectors are provided for the vehicle speed, the position of input and output means and the presence of passengers. The sensor signals are evaluated by a control unit, and input and output facilities are controlled depending on the evaluation results.

Cavities are integrally formed into the substrate between the upper substrate surface and the lower substrate surface to provide receptacles for electrical wiring, fiber optic cabling, EA foam and the like or to form a duct for directing air flow. Also described is an inflatable restraint assembly comprising a trim panel, an air bag door positioned spanning an air bag deployment opening in the trim panel, a frangible tear seam defining at least a portion of the air bag door, and a hard plastic collar is attached to the trim panel, wherein the air bag door is integrally formed with the hard plastic collar.

A molded motor vehicle instrument panel (10) made of a thermoplastic material has an integral air bag deployment door (14) for a passenger side air bag (22) that is defined by a tear seam (16) and is normally retained by an integral flexible mounting/hinge flange (36) to a part of the vehicle structure (11) when the seam is torn by the inflating air bag and wherein this flange then bends to allow the door to swing open to allow deployment of the air bag retaining same to the vehicle structure as the door is then free of the instrument panel. At very low temperatures, a portion of the air bag door can break away from the mounting/hinge flange because of plastic embrittlement at these low temperatures and the high bending stresses encountered at this juncture. This separation of the broken door portion from the vehicle structure is prevented by a tethering hinge (50) that is formed of a strong flexible sheet material that spans this critical juncture between the mounting/hinge flange and door and remains flexible at these very cold temperatures to retain the broken door portion to the vehicle structure.

Dies wird dadurch erreicht, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein Fuß (19) eines Bildschirms (20) drehbar um die Drehachse (16) des Belüftungsgitters (14) befestigt ist und daß der Bildschirm (20) über den Fuß (19) aus dem Stauraum (4, 23; 42) in eine Arbeitsstellung (26) verschwenkbar ist und daß der Bildschirm (20) in dieser Arbeitsstellung (26) in seiner Lage arretierbar ist.

Die Erfindung betrifft einen Bildschirmarbeitsplatz (1) in einem Fahrzeug, der wenigstens eine Rechnereinheit (7), eine Tastatur (20) und einen flachen, klappbaren Bildschirm (10) umfaßt. Im Fahrzeug ist eine klappbare Armlehne (6) enthalten, die von einer etwa waagrechten Gebrauchsstellung (33) in eine etwa senkrechte Nichtgebrauchsstellung wegklappbar ist. Erfindungsgemäß ist der Bildschirm (10) an der Armlehne (6) klappbar befestigt, so daß er einerseits in der Gebrauchsstellung (33) der Armlehne (6) in eine Arbeitsposition (35) in den Sichtbereich eines Benutzers aufklappbar ist und andererseits in eine Ruheposition (36) auf die Oberseite (17) oder in eine entsprechende Aussparung an der Oberseite der Armlehne (6) klappbar ist. In dieser Ruheposition (36) ist der Bildschirm (10) zusammen mit der Armlehne (6) in deren Nichtgebrauchsstellung wegklappbar. Ein derartiger Bildschirmarbeitsplatz (1) ist platzsparend, kostengünstig, sicherheitstechnisch unkritisch und gut benutzbar.
