43 OMNIDIRECTIONAL VEHICLE TRANSPORT US14752178 2015-06-26 US20160375814A1 2016-12-29 Jayson Michael Jochim; Martin Peter Aalund; David Bruce McCalib, JR.; Jon Stuart Battles
Concepts of omnidirectional vehicle transport are described. In one embodiment, an omnidirectional vehicle includes a transportation platform, a drive system, and wheels. At a surface level, the vehicle can maneuver in any direction, including longitudinal and lateral directions. The vehicle can also be positioned to engage the wheels with a track having a rack gear to engage with the wheels. A control system of the vehicle can then drive the wheels in engagement with the track to raise the vehicle to a second level. At the second level, the vehicle can maneuver to transfer items onto the vehicle for transportation of the items back to the surface level. After the items are transferred onto the vehicle, it can be positioned for engagement with the track, and the control system can drive the wheels to lower the vehicle to the surface level and offload the items.

51 Transformability(TM): personal mobility with shape-changing wheels US13200886 2011-10-03 US20130081885A1 2013-04-04 Robert A. Connor
This present invention is a personal mobility device for transporting a person over different surfaces and obstacles. This invention comprises novel technology that can be used for next-generation motorized wheelchairs that enable people to travel outside during winter months, to go “off-road,” and to travel up and down staircases independently. This invention features shape-changing wheels that change shape to travel more effectively on different surfaces and obstacles. The shape of a shape-changing wheel is changed by the motorized rotation of at least two rotating members that are part of the shape-changing wheel. Rotation of these rotating members into a first configuration causes the ground-contacting perimeter of the wheel to be circular. Rotation of these rotating members into a second configuration causes the ground-contacting perimeter of the wheel to be non-circular.

53 Wheel for a toy vehicle US797602 1985-11-13 US4773889A 1988-09-27 Donald A. Rosenwinkel; Wayne A. Kuna
A toy vehicle wheel that changes from a generally cylindrical periphery with an initial diameter and axial width to a greater diameter periphery. The wheel has a hollow shell of rubber or some other flexible material and opposed sidewalls of the wheel are moveable relative to each other to compress the axial width and increase the diameter. Across a substantial portion of the initial axial width a number of slits extend so that the periphery is serrated when it is enlarged. In one form, an axial screw engages a sidewall to rotate the wheel in its initial quiescent condition along a relatively unobstructed surface, but, upon encountering an obstruction, will draw the one sidewall toward the other. Variations provide for containing the axial screw within the compressed wheel or permitting it to extend out of a sidewall. Other forms provide for movement of the sidewalls relative to each other with bayonet locking in a desired condition and for spring bias in one direction.
