A mold surface treatment process comprises: providing a fluidized bed of a treating powder (20); holding the mold in the fluidized bed to fill up the depressions of the the mold surfaces (31) with the treating powder (20) by employing a surface treatment member (21) for pushing the treating powder (20) into the depressions; and taking the mold out of the fluidized bed. The mold surface treatment allows to make molten metal less likely penetrate into the walls of mold, and to manufacture a mold which generates less amount of gum causing defects during casting. |

An expendable substrate which in use contacts molten metal, for example a foundry mould or core or ladle lining, is coated with a coherent layer of refractory particles by tribo-electrically charging refractory particles coated with an organic binder, the coated particles having an electrical resistivity of at least 1010 ohm. cm. at 10kv, earthing the substrate and bringing the charged particles into contact with the earthed substrate. Suitable binders are thermoplastic resins, thermosetting resins and waxes and the quantity of binder in the binder coated particles is usually less that 10% by weight.

The body of the atomizer (1, 2, 3, 4) can be connected to an adjustable air supply pipe (9, 10) and to an adjustable lubricant and separating product supply pipe (13, 14), so as to obtain a very thin atomization and a mixture control of the lubricant with the separating product as well as to adjust the direction of the atomization. For this purpose, a needle (7), jointly rotating with a blade wheel (8), is fitted into the body (1, 2, 3, 4) with an axial play. Several air supply channels (9), distributed at the periphery, lead radially under the blade wheel (8). They allow the air flow to set the blade wheel (8) together with the needle (7) in rotation.

PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of air pocket in a liquid conduit of a liquid atomizing nozzle. CONSTITUTION: A mold pressing machine is provided with the atomizing nozzle 9 having a vortex chamber 27 discharging a liquid which is atomized by being mixed with air, compressed air is constantly supplied to the nozzle 9. A liquid nozzle 28 receives the liquid under pressure through the liquid conduits 19, 25, a liquid duct 31 and slave valves 32, 33 which are controlled by liquid pressure solely in those period during which the liquid mist is desired to be injected. In this mold pressing machine, the liquid conduit 19 is provided with a fast- acting air-escape valve 13 causing any air penetrated into the liquid duct 31 during the rest intervals because of a leak in the slave valves 32, 33 to flow to an escape conduit 21. PURPOSE: To obtain a mold having a long-life coating which is excellent in corrosion resistance and adhesion property and has a prescribed roughness and uniformly thickness by forming recesses having a prescribed depth, width and distribution by etching and coating the recesses with rigid corrosion resistance material. CONSTITUTION: A continuous photosensitive layer is prepared on a surface forming an internal mold cavity and is irradiated through a film mask displaying the provide patterns of the recesses to be distributed. The exposed parts 10 of the photosensitive layer are made insoluble to provide an etching resistance mask 12. The non-exposed parts are washed away after the film mask removal to allow many uniform gaps to remain. The mold surface is etched, by which the recesses 18 having the prescribed depth and width are formed. The mask is removed by a suitable solvent. Further, this surface is provided with a second etching resistance mask by the same method as the method described above, by which another recesses 38 having the prescribed depth and width may be formed. Next, the coating 40 of titanium nitride is formed over the entire surface having the recesses by known reactive sputtering, by which the final mold surface 7A is produced. |
