PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically raise the footrest with the movements of a seat device inside a vehicle without any operations so that the footrest passes the step part by solving a problem that a conventional seat has a structure requiring a troublesome manual operation to raise or house the footrest to avoid an interference between the footrest and a step part of a door opening part in moving a seat device inside a vehicle in a welfare vehicle seat having the seat device used as both a wheelchair and a car interior seat.
SOLUTION: The vehicle seat has the footrest 210 which is vertically movable by using a four-bar linkage 211 and a slope 251 provided over the step part from the interior side of the vehicle, and is constituted to move the footrest 210 along the slope 251 and to raise the footrest 210 by an operation to move the seat device S.

PURPOSE:To allow usage of a wheelchair in rainy weather and easy riding on or getting off from a vehicle by enabling the integrated combination of the front part of a body of the vehicle and the wheelchair to be driven as one body. CONSTITUTION:A space S for housing a wheelchair therein is formed by a loof 2 of a body 1 and side pannels 3 thereof. The rear part of the body 1 is used as an opening and a door 4 is fit to said opening. Guide rails 6 for guiding to settle the wheelchair are fit on the rear faces of both side pannels 3. A steering wheel 10 provided with a brake and an accelerator and front wheels 9 which are driven by an engine are disposed at the forward part of the body 1 so that a vehicle may be steered by the steering wheel. side bars 18 engaged with the guide rails 6 are fit to the wheelchair and once it is carried into the space S and settled and the door 4 is shut, the vehicle may fulfill a function equivalent to that of a four-wheel automobile. |

PURPOSE:To facilitate a wheel stopper for a lifter for carrying a physically handicapped person on a wheelchair into or out of a vehicle, by automatically turning a wheel stop plate down when a platform is moved down to the ground. CONSTITUTION:When a lift switch is put into a descent position, a platform 8 is moved down in horizontal posture by the retraction of a vertical drive cylinder 21 through a link 24 and lift arms 6a, 6b. Right before the platform 8 reaches the ground, the supply of oil pressure is stopped so that the platform 8 gravitates. At that time, the operating part 52b of a stop member 52 comes into contact with the ground so that the member is turned and the operating part is disengaged from an operating rod 48. After that, the operating rod 48 comes into contact with the ground so that the rod is pushed up and a wheel stop plate 8a is turned down against a torsion spring 56. As a result, a wheelchair can be put on the platform 8 or taken away therefrom. |

The vehicle with wheelchair positioning mechanism includes an automotive vehicle that is modified to assist a disabled person to enter, operate and exit the vehicle. The modification includes a wheelchair lift adjacent the rear of the vehicle. An internal rail system extends from the rear of the vehicle to the front of the vehicle adjacent the vehicle's driving controls. A remotely controlled platform is rotatably mounted on a carriage for movement on the rail system. The platform is adapted to support a wheelchair thereon. The platform can be rotated 360° so that the wheelchair moves forward when entering and exiting the vehicle. |

A transport apparatus includes a movable base, a sling, and a support frame mounted to the base. The frame extends over the base and is configured to move from a position spaced above the base at a first height wherein the frame may be extended over and proximate a support surface for engaging the sling when placed on the surface to another position spaced at a height greater than the first height after engagement with the sling. The sling is adapted to be engaged by the frame, which provides lateral support to the sling, wherein when the frame and sling are raised to the greater height the sling is raised above the surface so that a person supported on the sling may be lifted off the surface with the sling and the frame and supported in a stabilized sitting position so that the person can moved away from the surface. |

This invention pertains to an attachment to an electric wheelchair. The attachment enables an electric wheelchair to be used in areas that would not otherwise be possible. An electric wheelchair, though very useful and necessary, has several mobility drawbacks. Off road areas such as beaches, mud, and even tall grass pose a problem to the electric wheelchair. This invention provides an attachment to an existing electric wheelchair and powered off of that wheelchair's motor that allows the user to explore terrain that would not be possible in conventional wheelchair designs. By designing a drive system that works off of the electric wheelchair's power, the attachment can remain purely mechanical. With no motors or electric parts on the attachment, the design is simple and user friendly. |

A wheelchair lift and lateral transport apparatus has a lift assembly operable to elevate a platform supporting a wheelchair from a first ground position to a second elevated position adjacent a side of a motor vehicle. A headrest is mounted on the upper end of the lift assembly. A lateral transport assembly mounted on the vehicle floor and secured to the lift assembly operates to move the lift assembly and wheelchair on the platform from the second position to a third position. The lift assembly lowers the platform from the third position onto anchor pins secured to the floor of the vehicle to locate the person in the wheelchair in the vehicle driver's position. |

A coupling device for a chair device, such as a wheelchair includes a bracket that is intended to be integrally incorporated in the chair device frame or secured to the frame of the wheelchair. The bracket has an attachment system formed by various elements thereof, which is intended for mating with a corresponding engagement device associated with a lift mechanism or a securing position. The attachment system is intended to mate with the corresponding engagement device to allow the wheelchair to be secured in position and then lifted to or lowered from an elevated position within a transportation vehicle or architectural setting while the wheelchair is occupied. The attachment system is additionally intended to universally mate to a corresponding engagement device for securing of a wheelchair in position. |

A lift-up mechanism (50, 150) installed inside a vehicle serves to move a seat unit (10, 110) into or out of the vehicle. The seat unit (10, 110) is used as a passenger seat inside the vehicle and as a wheelchair outside the vehicle. Connecting plates (56, 156) are disposed on the lift-up mechanism (50, 150) permit the lift-up mechanism (50, 150) to be connected to the seat unit (10, 110) by inserting the connecting plates into connecting recesses (40, 140) formed in the seat unit (10, 110). Front wheels (60, 160) and rear wheels (70, 170) of the seat unit (10, 110) can be retracted and extended. A drive unit having an electric motor or similar drive may be provided to retract and extend the front wheels (60, 160) and the rear wheels (70, 170). An attitude changing arrangement may be provided to automatically change the attitude of the front wheels (60, 160) when the front wheels (60, 160) and the rear wheels (70, 170) are retracted. |

A vehicle for transporting an individual on a wheel chair over land. The vehicle including a support platform with a first end, a second end, a mid-section and generally parallel sides; a first access platform attached to the first end of the support platform, a second access platform attached to the second end of the support platform. A mechanism, such as a pair of endless tracks at fixed location relative to the support platform will preferably be used for propelling the vehicle over land. A movable steering mechanism, such as a joy stick will be moveably attached to the support platform at approximately mid-section of the support platform, so that the vehicle is steerable by the individual on a wheel chair while facing either the first end of the support platform or the second end of the support platform. Additionally, it is contemplated that the joy stick or control mechanism may include a remote control signal transmitting and receiving system that allows the vehicle to be controlled by a second party walking along side the vehicle. |
