Disclosed is a device for guiding and/or deflecting and/or pressing and/or reeling and/or refining a processing material during the production of paper (27), paperboard, or cardboard or during a treatment modifying the properties thereof. Said device comprises a roll (12) that enters in contact with the processing material. The inventive device is equipped with a roll (12) that is embodied as a first electrode (12a) while a second electrode (12b) is arranged such that the electrodes (12,12b) are placed on opposite sides of the processing material, whereby a plasma can be generated in the processing material or in the immediate vicinity thereof. The treatment of the processing material or the paper (27) with plasma makes it possible to improve the tensile strength and the quality features of the paper (27).

172 PRESS SECTION IN A PAPER MACHINE, IN WHICH PRESS SECTION ONE OR SEVERAL EXTENDED NIPS IS/ARE APPLIED EP99923626.8 1999-05-11 EP1105563A1 2001-06-13 TAVI, Seppo; HONKALAMPI, Petter
A press section in a paper machine, which press section comprises at least two separate press nips (NP1, NP2; N1, N2, N10, N20, N30, NP10, NP11, NP20, NP21, NP30). The paper web (W) is passed through these nips as a closed draw. In the press section there is at least one press nip provided with two press felts (31, 41; 32, 42) that receive water, through which press nip the paper web (W) runs between said press felts (31, 41; 32, 42). After the last-mentioned nip the paper web (W) is separated from one of the press felts (31/41; 32/42) and transferred on support of the other press felt (41/31; 42/32) as a closed draw further. The last nip is an extended-nip zone (NP2; NP10; NP20, NP21, NP30), in which one roll is a shoe roll (12) provided with a hose mantle (14) and with a press shoe arrangement (13), and the other roll is a press suction roll (22) provided with a suction zone (23). The paper web (W) is passed through the last extended-nip zone (NP2; NP10; NP20, NP21, NP30) between two press fabrics (32, 42). Directly after the last extended-nip zone (NP2; NP10; NP20, NP21, NP30) the paper web (W) is separated from one of the press fabrics (32/42) and transferred, with the aid of the vacuum present in the suction zone (23) of the press suction roll (22), to follow the press fabric (42/32) placed at the side of the press suction roll (22) without rewetting. The web (W) is passed on the latter press fabric (32; 42) as a closed draw onto a drying wire (51) of the dryer section. Further, a modification of the press section is described in which an extended-nip zone which corresponds to the extended-nip zone mentioned above and placed as the last nip is placed as the first nip in the press section.

The invention concerns a hood for a wire part and/or for a press section in a paper/board machine, comprising walls and a ceiling (10, 20), which form a closed hood around the wire part and/or the press section, air-conditioning being arranged in connection with the hood. The hood walls (10, 20) are composed of outer and inner walls, so that between them there is an air duct for passing a replacement air flow into the interior of the hood towards a substantial middle area of the paper machine through openings that have been made into the inner wall, the replacement air keeping the interior of the hood substantially dry and clean. The walls (10, 20) of the hood comprise a vertical side wall at the driving side, which wall is preferably fixed, and a tending-side vertical side wall and a ceiling, which have been formed as a single wall, which is preferably L-shaped and displaceable. The displaceable hood wall (10, 20) at the tending side is composed of two parts, so that the first hood wall (10) is placed on the wire section (110) and the second hood wall on the press section (120), which wall parts can be displaced apart from the wire part and the press section in opposite directions.

Method and device for the formation of a paper or board web (W) out of a fibrous material in a wire part which consists of a lower-wire loop (20), which is horizontal at the initial end of its upper run, and of an upper-wire loop (10) jointly operative with said lower-wire loop. After the initial dewatering carried out in the single-wire dewatering zone (20a) through the lower wire (20), the fibre layer (W) is passed over a lower-wire (20) support system (30) constituting a direct extension of the single-wire zone (20a), in the area of which said support system (30) dewatering by the effect of gravity through the lower wire (20) is prevented. With web qualities of higher grammage, after the single-wire dewatering zone (20a), the web (W) is passed to an initial part of the twin-wire dewatering zone, which is determined by the above support system (30) placed inside the lower-wire loop (20) and by a suction and foil equipment (40) placed opposite to it inside the upper-wire loop (10). Dewatering is carried out within the initial part through the upper wire (10). When thinner web qualities are being produced, the suction and foil equipment (40) is placed apart from contact with the lower wire (20) placed facing it (Fig. 1). After the above web formation stages, there follows a twin-wire dewatering section, which takes place within an upward short sector (a) of a forming roll (16) fitted inside the upper-wire loop (10), whereupon the twin-wire forming zone is curved downwards, being guided by a forming shoe (26) with a relatively large curve radius (R).

178 Web forming method and apparatus EP89312431.3 1989-11-29 EP0371786A2 1990-06-06 Waris, Tapio

A method for forming a paper or paperboard web from a fibrous material in the wire section of a paper making machine or equivalent machine comprising a bottom wire loop (2;102) with the main portion of its top run being horizontal or substantially horizontal, and a top wire loop (10;110) working in conjunction with the bottom wire loop; wherein in the method fibre slurry coming out of the headbox (1;101) of the paper making machine is fed to the first part (2a; 102a) of the top run of said bottom wire loop (2;102), which forms the first dewatering zone after which the partly formed fibre layer is led to the second dewatering zone, in the area of which said top wire loop (10;110) moves to cover said partly formed fibre layer in such a way that water removal from the fibre layer continues it least in two stages in the area of said second dewaterlng zone, whereupon the top wire loop (10;110) is separated from the nearly formed web (W) that is led to follow the run of the bottom wire loop (2;102) forward to the next processing stages of the web (W), wherein the method is characterized in that in the single-wired dewatering zone (2a;102a), after the initial water removal is carried out through the bottom wire (2;102), water removal through the bottom wire (2;102) is prevented by means of an element group (9; 109) operating in contact with the inner surface of the horizontal top run of the bottom wires; that in said water-removal prevention area water is removed from the web (W) through the top wire in the first stage or stages of the double-wired second dewatering zone, which stages comprise a relatively long, planar wire table extending from the headbox to the forming roll (6 in Fig. 1), or from the headbox to the last supporting element (109 in Fig. 2); and that after the first dewatering stage or stages of the double-wired zone water is removed in a curved double-wired dewatering zone (b) (Fig. 1) or zones (Ro, C) (Fig. 2), after which the web (W) is led to follow the bottom wire (2;102).

All of the essential operating parts for adding a top former assembly to a new Fourdrinier paper machine or for converting an existing Fourdrinier paper machine into a top former are carried by a supplemental frame assembly (100) which can be mounted on the main Fourdrinier frame (10) with minimal modification of the latter except the addition of simple parts for securing the supplemental frame assembly on top of the main frame. The primary operating parts of the top wire assembly are a hollow open faced roll (125) and a top wire deflector (150) which cooperate to collect and deliver liquid expressed through the top wire (110) into a receptacle (195) that is carried by the supplemental frame assembly, and special provision is made for utilizing the top wire deflector to correct for irregularities in the cross machine profile of the paper sheet as it is being formed. Provision is also made for operating the resulting top former in roll former mode, blade former mode, or a combination roll and blade former modes.
