206 MEASURING ARRANGEMENTS IN A SHORTENED DRY END OF A TISSUE MACHINE EP03784716.7 2003-07-28 EP1540077A1 2005-06-15 LINDEN, Anders, Tommy
A property of a paper web is measured using one or more reflectance measurement sensors emitting measuring beams onto the web and receiving the beams reflected from the web, from which the web property is deduced. The web is supported on a web support during the measurement, such as on a passive or active airfoil or fabric. One or more measurement sensor(s) can be integrated within an active airfoil, and can comprise a plurality of optical fibers having sensing ends arranged in the airfoil such that the sensing ends of the fibers face the moving paper web through one or more apertures in a web-supporting panel of the airfoil. Alternatively, a traversing sensor can be mounted within the airfoil. Other embodiments include a reflectance sensor mounted adjacent an airfoil or other web support such as a through-air drying fabric or a support belt for the web.

209 PAPERMAKING BELT AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME USING A TEXTURED CASTING SURFACE EP91912749.8 1991-06-14 EP0536281B1 1994-11-09 SMURKOSKI, John Andrew; LEGGITT, Gary Lindsey; WILSON, Gregory Lynn
A backside textured papermaking belt is disclosed which is comprised of a framework and a reinforcing structure. The framework has a first surface which defines the paper-contacting side of the belt, a second surface opposite the first surface, and conduits whic extend between first and second surfaces of the belt. The first surface of the framework has a paper side network formed therein which defines the conduits. The second surface of the framework has a backside network with passageways that provide surface texture irregularities in the backside network. The papermaking belt is made by casting a photosensitive resinous material over and through the reinforcing structure while the reinforcing structure travels over a textured surface, and then exposing the photosensitive resinous material to light of an activating wavelength through a mask which has transparent and opaque regions. A process for making paper products is also disclosed which involves applying a fluid pressure differential from a vacuum source through the belt to a partially-formed embryonic web of papermaking fibers. The fibers in the embryonic web are deflected into the conduits of the papermaking belt by the vacuum pressure while the papermaking belt and the embryonic web travel over the vacuum source. Following the deflection, the paper web is impressed with the paper side network of the belt, and dried to form the final product.
210 Method and equipment in crawling operation of a press felt in a paper machine EP93850034.5 1993-02-19 EP0557263A1 1993-08-25 Hirsimäki, Martti; Suvanto, Lauri; Villa, Jouko

The invention concerns a method and a device in crawling operation of a press felt (H) in a paper machine. The press felt (H) has been passed as a closed felt loop through the nip (N) placed between the centre roll (K) and the press roll (T) in the press of the paper machine, the felt (H) being driven, during the running proper of the paper machine, by means of the nip drive (N) between the centre roll (K) and the press roll (T) of the press. When the paper machine is not being run and the nip (N) between the centre roll (K) and the press roll (T) in the paper machine is open, the felt is moved, so as to moisten the new felt (H), by means of the crawling drive by rotating the drive roll (10). The axle (10a) of the drive roll (10) is permanently connected with a drive rim (20). During crawling operation, the drive wheel (19;27a,27b...) of a hydraulic device (14,17;26a,26b...) is brought into engagement with the drive rim (20), and, when the crawling drive of the felt is not in operation, the drive roll (10) is switched to the free revolving position by shifting the drive wheel (19;27a,27b...) of the hydraulic device (14,17;26a,26b...), which drive wheel is operationally connected with the drive rim (20), apart from the drive rim (20).

211 PAPERMAKING BELT AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME USING DIFFERENTIAL LIGHT TRANSMISSION TECHNIQUES EP91913639.0 1991-06-14 EP0536320A1 1993-04-14 TROKHAN, Paul, Dennis; BOUTILIER, Glenn, David

An apparatus for dewatering a fibrous suspension comprises a suction housing (7) which has an active surface (9) by means of which water is extracted upwardly from the fibrous suspension which is trapped between top and bottom wires (1, 5).

In orderto provide a more efficient means of dewatering, the active surface (9) has a first open area (15) by means of which water is removed upwardly by suction, and a second part (17) downstream of the first, which urges water downwardly. The second part (17) is conveniently a solid surface. The first part of the active surface is preferably curved with a radius which decreases in the downstream direction.

220 Improvements in or relating to dewatering apparatus EP84301198.2 1984-02-24 EP0122701A1 1984-10-24 Arav, Ronnie Abraham

Apparatus for dewatering a fibrous suspension on a paper forming machine comprises a suction housing (7) having a convexly curved active surface (9) adapted to contact a travelling forming wire (1) of the paper machine. Suction and pressure is applied to the fibrous suspension over the length of the active surface (9) for the purpose of dewatering the suspension.

In order to increase the drainage capabilities of the dewatering apparatus the upstream radius (R1) of curvature of the active surface (9) is arranged to be greater than the downstream radius (R3) of curvature to thereby increase the pressure applied to the web over the length of the active surface. In one embodiment the active surface has three discrete radii R1, Rs, R3 in which R1>R2>R3. In another embodiment the radius increases progressively.
