101 Blast furnace taphole drill US263083 1981-05-12 US4456083A 1984-06-26 Jacobus A. Gozeling; Sibbele de Boer; Abraham A. Spiering
A blast furnace taphole drill has a flaring head (3) with cutting edges (5) at its cutting end formed by intersecting angled faces. A central bore (4) carries cleaning air to the cutting end. To prevent blockage of the cleaning air bore (4) by debris and possible jamming of the drill, the head has deep radial grooves (6) formed at the bottoms of the valley shapes between the cutting edges (5). The grooves (6) extend radially from the air bore (4) and conduct the air so that it can get behind or under jammed debris. Reduced taphole drilling times can be achieved.
102 Furnace taphole drilling apparatus and method US317767 1981-11-03 US4418894A 1983-12-06 Pierre Mailliet
A drill rod, left in place in the plug of a taphole of a shaft furnace, is withdrawn by apparatus including a conventional percussive type taphole drill which is movable along a support bar. The support bar is provided, at the end which most closely approaches the furnace, with a guide and support head which engages and supports the drill rod as it is being withdrawn subsequent to loosening from the plugging material in the taphole.
103 Swiveling mechanism particularly for taphole plugging devices US35773 1979-05-03 US4220321A 1980-09-02 Eberhard Brucher
A taphole plugging device has an extension arm which can be swiveled about a fixed axis by a drive train operated by a motor. At its end remote from its pivot, the extension arm carries the plugging gun. The drive train and motor for the extension arm are all carried by the extension arm and act between the point on the extension arm spaced from the pivot of the extension arm, on the one hand, and a fixed support on which the extension arm is swingable, on the other hand.
104 Apparatus for plugging holes in an electric smelting furnace or the like US705573 1976-07-15 US4072250A 1978-02-07 Thor Pedersen; Aksel E. Kristiansen
An apparatus for plugging holes in an electric smelting furnace or the like is disclosed. The apparatus comprises first and second tubular members, the second being adapted to be secured to the first by means of two assemblies mounted exterior of the tubes each of which may serve as either a release or a pivotal element about which the second tubular member may be rotated to facilitate loading and/or cleaning of either tubular member. A piston is provided which travels substantially the longitudinal extent of the first tubular member to extrude, under pressure, a material suitable for plugging a hole.
105 Clay gun US702120 1976-07-02 US4058300A 1977-11-15 Pierre H. Mailliet; Jean Metz
The efficiency of operation of a taphole plugging clay gun for a blast furnace is enhanced by facilitating the cleaning of the sealant receiving chamber thereof behind the ejector piston which moves therein. Cleaning is facilitated by providing a protective casing which defines an annular chamber into which sealant leaking past or falling behind the ejector piston is forced; the annular chamber being provided with cleaning ports in the side wall.
106 Taphole boring or plugging machine for shaft furnaces, especially blast furnaces US617775 1975-09-29 US4057234A 1977-11-08 Eberhard Brucher; Karl-Heinz Schussler
A taphole boring or plugging machine having a simple and compact design affording rotation of the tool arm in several planes is provided which comprises: a pivotably supported connection at the free end of the machine tool arm and with a universal joint supported therein, and support bracket which is pivotably supported by the horizontal axle of the universal joint.
107 Method of plugging tapholes in phosphorus furnaces US663845 1976-03-04 US4030709A 1977-06-21 E. Dwayne Shepard; Gordon H. Scherbel
A method of plugging phosphorus tapholes with a plug of matted ceramic fibers such as alumina-silica fibers wherein closure is effected by placing the ceramic plug, in the shape of a hollow cone, over a backing plug which is then inserted into the furnace taphole by means of a long handle attached to the base of the backing plug. The backing plug is maintained in place until molten furnace material solidifies against the plug thereby sealing off the taphole. Before the furnace is ready to be tapped, the backing plug is removed and the ceramic plug burned out with an oxygen lance.
108 Tapping of a blast furnace US30795472 1972-11-20 US3823931A 1974-07-16 WELLS W; HAYSOM D
The use of a tuyere comprising an inner tube and an outer tube spaced from the inner tube and preferably coaxial therewith, a gas being passed through the inner tube and a hydrocarbon fuel such as propane, being passed through the outer tube, in tapping a metal refining furnace, particularly a blast furnace. The tuyere is cemented in a tapping notch and at the selected tapping time the hydrocarbon fuel flow is reduced and preferably stopped, oxygen being passed through the inner tube whereby the tuyere disintegrates providing direct communication between the hearth of the furnace and the exterior of the furnace.
109 Metallurgical furnace with cartridge clay gun means US3682456D 1970-10-21 US3682456A 1972-08-08 BERCZYNSKI FRANK A
A clay gun cylinder having a pair of complementary half sections, one of which is pivotal for opening and closing the cylinder. A clay containing cartridge is fed into the opened cylinder and coaxially aligned with the cylinder piston. The cartridge has a plug at one end engageable by the piston for discharging material from the cartridge.
110 Arrangement for opening and closing tapholes of metallurgical furnaces US3667748D 1970-02-13 US3667748A 1972-06-06 DIENENTHAL HERBERT; ZIMMERMANN THEODOR
APPARATUS FOR OPENING AND CLOSING TAPHOLES OF METALLURGICAL FURNACES, PARTICULARLY ROTATABLE HEARTH FURNACES AND FURNACES HAVING PLURAL TAPHOLES, INCLUDES A CARRIAGE OR TROLLEY, A TRACK SUPPORTING THE CARRIAGE OR TROLLEY, AND A TAPHOLE DRILLING MACHINE AND A TAPHOLE PLUGGING MACHINE SUPPORTED IN SIDE BY SIDE RELATION ON THE CARRIAGE OR TROLLEY. THE TRACKS RUN AT A UNIFORM SPACING FROM THE WALL OF A FURNACE, AND A CENTERING ARM ON THE APPARATUS COOPERATES WITH GUIDES ON THE FURNACE, ONE ADJACENT EACH TAPHOLE, FOR PROPER LOCATION OF THE TAPHOLE DRILLING MACHINE AND THE TAPHOLE PLUGGING MACHINE. THE TRACKS MAY BE EITHER OVERHEAD TRACKS OR MAY BE GROUND SUPPORTED TRACKS. THE APPARATUS INCLUDES VARIOUS ARRANGE-

MENTS FOR SUPPLYING ELECTRIC AND FLUID POWER TO THE MACHINES FROM STATIONARY SOURCES THEREOF.
