SEEBERG HORST |
A coke oven esp. a battery of oven chambers of the inclined type, with a horizontal ceiling and an inclined sole, has chambers with a non-uniform width. The chamber width in an upper section near the sealing is greater than in a lower section near the sole. Tests have proved that this is a simple way of increasing the throughput rate by 5% of reducing the level subsidence by shrinkage and of lowering the temp. of the gas collecting space and of the chamber ceiling. |

205,460. Becker, J. Oct. 13, 1922, [Convention date]. Coke ovens.-Relates to regeneratively-heated inclined coke-ovens, and consists in part in applying thereto the flue arrangements described in Specification 171,117, and in part in grouping the flues so that the heating effect can be controlled along the length of the heating-wall. As shown in connection with an oven adapted for heating either by a rich or a lean gas, the heating-flues 19 are arranged in four groups K<1>, L<1>, each of which delivers into a top header flue 32 connected by a cross-over duct 33 with a corresponding group of flues in an adjacent heating-wall. Beneath and parallel to the ovens are regenerators G, H separated by walls 13, 22, and divided into compartments corresponding with the flue groups by partitions 24. each heating-flue being in communication with two regenerators on opposite sides of the subjacent wall 13. The compartments are arranged at different levels, and each four in line communicate through flues 23 with a common valve box. not shown, by which they can be connected either to atmosphere or a main flue 29. When operating with rich gas supplied through ducts 37 beneath the heating-walls all the regenerators are utilized for heating the air for combustion; when lean gas is used the air and gas are supplied through the regenerators G, H respectively. In a modification, the soles of the two lower regenerators of a group of four are at one level, and those of the two higher at another. |
