274,990. Ball & Son, Ltd., W., and Savory, J. May 27, 1926. Implements with adjustable tool frames; adjusting and lifting parts.-Ploughing and cultivating elements carried by a tractor are mounted on a rock shaft adapted to be rocked by pawl and ratchet mechanism connected with one or both of the tractor driving wheels so that the rotation of the wheels may be utilized for raising the implements clear of the ground when required. The rock shaft 1 is mounted in bearings 2 projecting from a casting 3 which is provided with a journal 39 mounted in a bearing 40 bolted to the drawbar cap of the tractor. The bearings 2 and rock shaft 1 carrying the implement may be tilted about the journal 39 by means of a screw 43. The implement beams 6 are pivoted on lever arms 4 on the shaft 1 and one or more screws 9 are provided abutting against the lever arms for adjusting the beams about their pivots 5. A spring 17 surrounds a rod 12 pivoted on a bracket 15 on the differential casing 16 and passing through a swivelling bearing 13 in a bracket 11 on one of the beams 6, a nut 18 being provided to limit the movement through the bearing 13. The levers 4, rod 12, spring 17, &c. constitute a flexible parallel-motion connection with the tractor. A lever 19 on the rock shaft 1 is connected by links 20, 21 to a pivoted arm 22 carrying a spring- controlled pawl 26 adapted to engage with ratchet teeth 25 on the tractor wheel 24. The ratchet teeth 25 may be formed on a casting fastened to the wheel 24 by clips and having projections fitting between the spokes. The pawl 26 is thrown into engagement manually, by means of a handle 31, and it is thrown out of engagement automatically, when the implement has been raised far enough, by a proiection 32a on a casting 32. The hooked end of the arm 22 engages behind a detent 35 to hold the implement in the raised position. The detent is formed on a spring-controlled pivoted member 34 which is provided with a step and pedal 38 by which it may be moved to release the arms and allow the implement to fall.

118,287. Hribar, A. Aug. 13, 1917, [Convention date]. Ploughs.-A motor-plough is provided with a number of shares T<1> - - T<6> which are arranged in two groups, the shares of each group having mould boards turned to the right and to the left respectively, and each group having a separate draw-bar to which the shares are independently connected, the draw-bar being attached by links to the axle of the machine. In the form shown, two draw-bars M, M<1>, connected by rods D D<1>, D<2> D<3> to the axle B B' of the driving wheels A A<1>, carry sleeves by which the shares are independently secured through their beams, the depth of working of each plough being controlled by adjusting the height of a wheel secured to the beam. The ploughs are lifted by chains r<1> - - r<6> which are attached to drums R R<1> R<2>, V V<1> V<2> driven through a countershaft and clutches from the driveing wheel axle. The diameters of the driving drums are so proportioned that each plough is lifted the same distance and the point of attachment of the chains to the drums is so arranged that the ploughs are lifted in sequence, the ends of the furrows being in a straight line. A crankarm projects from the shaft of each set of lifting drums and, when the ploughs have been raised sufficiently, this arm operates a chain throwing out the clutch of the lifting gear, a pawl retaining the drum shaft in position. If desired; one or more of the ploughs may be set to slide on the ground to ease the motor when deep tilling is being done. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a modification in which the mould boards of all the ploughs are turned the same way, the ploughs in this modification all being secured to the same frame. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.

123,122. Bentall, E. E., and Bingham, G. C. Dec. 10, 1917. Ploughs.-Means for raising the frame of a plough for use with motor-tractors comprises an endless chain driven from the supporting wheel or wheels. The endless chain H passes round a sprocket-wheel G on the land wheel A and a sprocket-wheel F in a housing at the top of the wheel standard B. This standard B slides through a bracket C on the plough frame D and has a parallel extension B<1> which also slides in a guide. The frame D is held in its raised and lowered positions by spring catch levers L, K pivoted on the bracket C and engaging with adjustable stops N, O respectively. The driver lowers it by pulling on a cord attached to the upper arm P<1> of a lever P pivoted on the bracket C. A cam on the lever P engages a pin on the catch lever L and disengages the latter from the stop N, when the frame D falls until the lever K engages beneath the stop O. For raising the plough, a cord attached to the lower arm P<3> of the lever P is pulled until an arm P<4> disengages the lever K from the stop O. A tooth P<5> on the lever P engages the rising part of the chain H and is carried up with it, thus raising the frame D. In a modification the guide C is hinged and the land and furrow wheels are adjustably connected by arms and quadrants to a bar journaled across the frame D.

10,339. Fowler, R. H., and Cooper, H. April 28. Ploughs.-In motor or other ploughs having two main wheels and a rear steering-wheel, the frame carrying the tools rests on an underframe supported by the steering-wheel and is connected by a rope or rod with an appliance which can be clutched to the main axle or wheel, or to a rotary shaft, to lift the tool frame. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the motor and tools are carried by a frame a hung from the main axles by plates c and resting on an underframe d, which is pivoted at d<1> and is supported by the steering-wheel c by means of rings d<2>, d<3>, the motor being in front of the main axles and the tools at the rear of them. The tool frame is raised by means of a rope g wound on a drum h and connected to a lever arm f<2> on a rockshaft f', which has an arm f<3> linked to the frame a. The drum h is clutched to the wheel axle by operating a pedal near the seat k. A pawl h' engaging with a ratchet-wheel h<2> prevents the unwinding of the rope. The tool frame falls when the pawl h<1> is moved by operating a lever h<3>. In a modification, the underframe is the main frame and carries the motor, and the tool frame is adapted to be lifted approximately parallel to itself. It is guided by pins and slots, and is linked to arms on two rock-shafts which are coupled together by lever arms and an adjustable rope. An arm on one of the shafts is actuated by a rope wound on a drum mounted on the shaft from which the main wheels are driven. The clutch is automatically thrown out of engagement with the drum by an adjustable tappet on the lifting- rope. According to the Provisional Specification, the depth of work may be adjusted by means of screws.
