687,915. Motorized agricultural implements. DUFOUR, L. Aug. 14, 1951 [Sept. 8, 1950], No. 19097/51. Class 6(i) [Also in Group XXXI] An agricultural tractor comprise an engine and transmission members, and a beam on which agricultural tools are mounted and which is pivotally supported on a stationary chassis provided with steering and driving wheels. A ratchet device is provided for each of the rear wheels and allows the power of the engine to be used to rock the beam to lift the tools clear of the ground. As shown, the beam is hinged about the rear wheel axis 9 and each rear wheel brake drum 10 is provided with ratchet teeth 11 against which a spring loaded 12, pivoted on the chassis 1, is arranged to bear. The pawl may be disengaged from the ratchet by a lever 17 and locked in this position in any suitable manner. The pawl may be provided with a counterweight 21, Fig. 4, so that it can be automatically moved into and out of engagement with the ratchet. The beam may be pivoted about an axis parallel to and rearwardly of the axis of the rear wheels or it may be pivoted on a finger 25 in the chassis, the beam being provided with a bearing 27. |

618,723. Agricultural implements. POMIERANIEC, I., and TRANSPLANTERS (ROBOT). Ltd. Nov. 19, 1946, No. 34265. [Class 6 (i)] A wheel-operated toollifting device, provided on an agricultural implement, can be actuated by an operator so that the lifting mechanism can be driven in either direction, to raise or lower the tools, during the forward travel of the implement. In the form shown, a tool frame 4 carrying a plough 5 is pivoted about the axle of the land wheels 1 of a main frame 2 and is provided with a forwardly-extending lever 6 which is pivoted to the angle of a bell-crank lever 7a, 7c. One arm 7a of the bell-crank is pivoted to a link 8 attached to a rack element 9 which is pivoted at 12 to a crank 11. The rack element 9 is sector shaped and includes two sets of rack teeth, one set or the other being engageable with a pinion 13 driven by the land wheels. A third arm 7b, provided on the bellcrank, carries at its upper end a head slidable between springs 16, 17 on a rod 15 attached at one end to the crank. The crank 11 is also pivotally mounted and its upper end is held against a manually-operable latch 18. In Fig. 1 the tool is shown being raised by the interaction of the pinion 13 and the lower rack. As the pinion reaches the end of the rack the lever system 6, 7, passes through a dead-centre position and becomes locked in the angle of the lever 8 (Fig. 3). At the same time the head 14 slides along the rod 15 and compresses the spring 17. On releasing the latch 18, the rack element pivots under the action of the spring 17 and the pinion engages the upper rack. During lowering of the tool the head 14 compresses the other spring 16 so that the next release of the latch will result in engagement between the pinion and lower rack (Fig. 1). The device may be applied to all types of land-engaging implements (e.g. planting machines). |

587,634. Agricultural implements. TOPE, E. R., and TWOSE, Ltd., E. V. Nov. 24, 1944, No. 23445. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Group XXXII] Tractor-supported tool-bars are provided with a lever or " sprag " 26 which on being tilted into contact with the ground automatically lifts the tools into inoperative position due to the forward movement of the tractor, whereupon latching means for retaining the tools in the raised position is permitted to operate. The tool-bar consists of transverse members 1, 2, longitudinal members 3, and vertical members 5 extending above and below the members 3, the whole forming a rigid structure. The members 5 are pivoted to upper and lower links 8, 9, themselves pivoted to plates 12 fixed to the tractor. Horns 19 on the plates 12 carry a cross-bar 20, while upstanding from the tool-bar are pivoted members 22 carrying adjustable plates 23. The " sprag " consists of a double-ended bar 26 mounted on a crossshaft 27. The shaft also carries a cam 29. By operating a lever 37, the cam is rotated and the sprag is tilted into engagement with the ground and the lifting movement started. As the frame rises the lower end of the plate 23 catches over the bar 20, so locking the tool-bar in the raised position. The lock is released by a small cam 45 on the shaft 27 which pushes the lever 43 to the right and draws the plates 23 in the same direction away from the bar 20. Depth of working is determined by a lever 50 to the hub of which is attached a chain 53 fastened to the tool-frame upright 5. |
