Then when the pattern of the reference article 12 is projected on the bits of a three-bit pattern, the threshold value is still a prescribed value and the picture element signals are inputted from the setting parts 4a and 4b to the detection part 5. Further, when the pattern of the reference article 12 is not projected on all the bits of ≥1 three-bit pattern, the inspection position is confirmed as an edge and the threshold values of the control part 7 are varied.
