CONSTITUTION: An antacid prepared by dispersing an inorganic antacid in a water absorbing swellable high polymer, preferably a high polymer obtained by gelatinizing a water-soluble high polymer by crosslinking thereof. In use, the antacid is prepared in the form of a granules or particles, and incorporated with a medicine for the stomach and bowels, internal prolonged release pharmaceutical, etc. A natural high polymer, e.g. gelatin, agar, KONJAK powder, (devil's-tongue powder), etc. may be preferably used as the raw material for the water absorbing and swellable high polymer. Sodium bicarbonate, etc. is used as the inorganic antacid in the form of granules or particles. The size thereof is preferably 200 mesh or finer. The amount of the inorganic antacid is preferably 10W400pts.wt. based on 100pts.wt. water absorbing and swellable high polymer.
