CONSTITUTION: An optical image is photoelectrically converted by an image pickup element 6 and divided into a color difference signal and a luminance signal by a video processing circuit 7. A white balance adjustment signal is given to variable gain control circuits 8, 9 via a D/A converter 20 from a microcomputer 13 and a process circuit 10 converts the luminance signal and the color difference signal into the video signal. The microcomputer 13 selects the data for white balance adjustment based on the information of a color measuring sensor 21, outputs the result to the D/A converter 20 and the converter 20 keeps the preceding data till the next input. Since the data is fixed to the just preceding white balance output when the pickup lens enters the macro pickup or near distance pickup, even if an object with a strong color exists close to the image pickup lens, the disturbance in the white balance due to the effect is avoided.
