PROCESS: Callus of Echium lycopsis Linn. derived from the seedling or tissue (a root, a stalk, a leaf) of the plant by a conventional method is subjected to sterile culture in the dark at 20W30°C, using a medium for tissue culture use containing auxin and cytokinin. Fresh cultured cells or cultured tissues thus obtained are extracted with a solvent such as chloroform. Water is added to the filtrate, and the mixture is shaken and separated. Then, after dehydration, the solvent layer is concentrated under reduced pressure. The concentrated extract is subjected to column chromatography, and subsequently preparative thin-layer chromatography, to obtain the desired compound as yellow dyestuff component (E5).
