A plastic wheel assembly (122, 222) and wheel mounting sleeve (127, 227) used to releasably secure the wheel (122, 222) onto an axle (123, 223). The wheel mounting sleeve (127, 227) includes an axle stabilizing opening (100, 200) positioned in an end wall (158, 258) of the sleeve which receives an axle outer end or axle stub (199, 299) that supports the axle (123, 223) against lateral loading and stabilizes it to reduce wobble, chatter and vibration. The opening (100, 200) permits visual confirmation of proper section of the axle outer end (199, 299) in the opening (100, 200). A universal axle (223, 223a) is also provided which can be used to couple wheels (122, 222) having shaped axle bores (139, 239) to the axle using wheel mounting sleeves (127, 227), as well as being used to couple wheels (420), having straight or substantially cylindrical bores (439), to the axle using conventional fasteners (450, 461, 470). |

A caster structure comprises a small wheel, a mounting plate, a roller bearing, a wheel frame, and a locating member. The wheel is fastened pivotally with the wheel frame which is fastened with the underside of the mounting plate by the locating member in conjunction with the roller bearing. The locating member is provided with a plurality of rollers. The rollers of the locating member and the rollers of the roller bearing move to reduce friction at such time when the wheel is turned in a direction. |

A plastic wheel (122, 222) and wheel mounting sleeve (127, 227, 327, 427) used to releasably secure the wheel (122, 222) onto an axle (123, 223). The wheel mounting sleeve (127, 227, 327, 427) preferably includes a resilient, radially displaceable, axially extending, cantilevered finger (146, 246, 346, 446) which includes an axle-engaging lug (155, 255, 355, 455), while a wheel-engaging shoulder is provided on the sleeve by an annular rib (201, 301). The sleeve shoulders latch the sleeve (127, 227, 327, 427) to the axle (123, 223) and the wheel (122, 222) to the sleeve. The sleeve (127, 227, 327, 427) includes an axle stabilizing recess (198, 298, 398, 498) positioned in an end wall (158, 258, 358, 458), which receives an axle stub (199, 299) that supports the axle (123, 223) against lateral loading and stabilizes it to reduce wobble, chatter and vibration. |

A plastic wheel (22) and wheel mounting sleeve (27, 27a, 27b, 27c) used to releasably secure the wheel (22) onto an axle (23). The wheel mounting sleeve (27) preferably includes two resilient, radially displaceable, axially extending, cantilevered fingers (46, 47) which are cantilevered from and extend axially in opposite directions on the sleeve (27). An axle-engaging shoulder (42) is provided on a radially inwardly extending lug (55) on one finger (46), while a wheel-engaging shoulder (43) is provided on a radially outwardly extending lug (61) on the other resilient finger (47). The respective shoulders (42, 43) cooperate with oppositely facing shoulders (58, 62) so as to releasably latch the sleeve (27) to the axle (23) and the wheel (22) to the sleeve (27). Assembly can be accomplished without any tools and a screwdriver can be used to disassemble the components. Alternative sleeves (27a, 27b, 27c) include an annular rib (101) which mates with an annular bore recess (102) to further limit relative movement between the sleeve (27a, 27b, 27c) and the wheel (22). |

A light-metal strip wheel, in particular for motor vehicles, which includes a wheel disk and a rim. The wheel disk comprises two wheel-disk parts each having a ventilation hole. The ventilation holes have necks that when pressed into one another, secure together the two wheel-disk parts with the two parts separated from one another in the region surrounding the ventilation holes, while coming to rest on one another in a hub region. The space between the two wheel-disk parts in the region surrounding the ventilation holes increases the stiffness of the strip wheel so that the wheel is suitable for accommodating large loads. |

The present invention relates to the wheel assembly of mowers, particularly to mulching mowers. In the preferred embodiment, each wheel assembly includes a clearing disc sandwiched between a pair of support wheels. The support wheels support the weight of the lawn mower. The clearing disc clears accumulated grass from the wheel assembly by moving between the support wheels as the wheels rotate to clear away grass clippings. The clearing disc has an outside diameter that is greater than the outside diameter of the support wheels and is mounted between the wheels in such a way that the clearing disc continually moves upwardly as the mower is moved. |

The invention provides a wheel having a disk-shaped substrate having a first surface, a second surface and a periphery; and a radially extending channel formed within the substrate, wherein the channel has a closed end adapted to encircle an axle and an open end which terminates at the periphery such that the channel extends from the first surface to the second surface. Also provided is a method for installing and uninstalling wheels having the steps of supplying a wheel having a reversibly deformable radially and transversely extending channel having a first width, whereby the channel is adapted to frictionally and slidably receive an axle, urging the axle into the channel and toward the center of the wheel, whereby the channel reversibly expands to a second width to accommodate the axle; and allowing the axle to reside at the center of the wheel while the channel reverts to the first width. |
