84 CONTAINER SUCH AS A NURSING CONTAINER, WITH FLEXIBLE LINER AND ACCESS SITE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME EP85901885.0 1985-04-05 EP0179093A1 1986-04-30 CABERNOCH, James, L.; WHITE, Leonard, A.
85 ABSORBENT SHEET EXHIBITING RESISTANCE TO MOISTURE PENETRATION PCT/US0335270 2003-11-06 WO2004044320A3 2004-08-26 LUU PHUONG V; EDWARDS STEVEN L; WHITE DAVID W; SCHAUER BRIGITTE K; HYNNEK MARTIN A
An absorbent paper sheet is treated with an aqueous wax dispersion such that the sheet includes a fused wax and emulsifier residue in an amount of from about 1 to about 20 weight percent of the sheet based on the combined weight of the fiber, wax residue and an emulsifier residue in the sheet. The fused wax emulsion operates to make at least one surface of the sheet laterally hydrophobic, exhibiting a moisture penetration delay of at least about 2 seconds and less than about 40 seconds as well as a typical contact angle with water at one minute of at least about 50 degrees. There is thus provided absorbent products which exhibit both absorbency and resistance to moisture penetration. The treated sheet further exhibits microbial barrier properties, impeding transfer of bacteria, for example, through the sheet. There are produced tissue products which resist moisture penetration from propelled liquids as well as sequester sorbed liquids in the interior of the tissue.

An apparatus (100) for bonding two substrates (152, 172) includes a first roller (104), a second roller (108) that forms a nip (106) with the first roller, a substrate transport configured to move the first substrate and a second substrate through the nip simultaneously, and a controller. The controller operates the substrate transport to move the first substrate and the second substrate through the nip simultaneously, with a pattern of a hydrophobic material (140) on a first side of the first substrate engaging a first side of the second substrate. The first substrate engages the first roller, which has a higher temperature than the second roller, and the hydrophobic material penetrates the first and second substrates to bond the substrates together.

99 CONTAINER SUCH AS A NURSING CONTAINER, WITH FLEXIBLE LINER AND ACCESS SITE AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME. EP85901885 1985-04-05 EP0179093A4 1987-10-08 CABERNOCH JAMES L; WHITE LEONARD A
A container (20) having a semi-rigid or rigid outer shell (22) and a co-extensive flexible inner liner (24) which is weakly or temporarily adhered to the shell (22) to permit more convenient manufacturing of the container (20) and yet is collapsible to permit dispensing of the contents (28) without displacement air, and an access site (58) defined in the container wall to which an access assembly (26) may be attached. The liner (24) may be weakly adhered to the shell (22) by a low tensile strength adhesive although natural adherence or static electric attraction may also be used. Alternatively, a degradable adhesive may be used which holds the liner (24) and shell (22) together during assembly, but weakens to a point below the threshold of release between the shell and the liner prior to the time of use. The access site (58) is preferably defined by an annular fold (60) in the container wall which tightly captures the liner (24) to provide a mechanical peripheral seal between the shell (22) and the liner (24) around the access site to prevent leakage of liquid, into the area between the shell (22) and the liner (24). The container (20) is particularly useful as a nursing container, including a nipple access site (58) with an attached nipple assembly (26).
100 Pigmented, heat-sealable coating composition for application to oriented polyolefin films EP86307811.9 1986-10-09 EP0221690A2 1987-05-13 Liu, Leland Li-Jen

A pigmented, heat-sealable coating composition for application to a primer-coated, oriented mono-layer or multi-layer polyolefin film is provided which comprises a blend of (a) a binding and oxygen barrier effective amount of a heat-sealable polyvinylidene chloride homopolymer and/or polyvinylidene chloride copolymer containing at least 50 weight percent copolymerized vinylidene chloride, (b) an amount of wax sufficient to result in a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction of a film to which the coating composition is applied and (c) an amount of pigment sufficient to result in a significant reduction in the light transmission property of a film to which the coating composition is applied.

Oriented polyolefin films coated with the foregoing compositions possess excellent seal strength and hot tack properties, good blocking resistance, low coefficient of friction, low oxygen transmission rate and low light transmission.
