The invention relates to methods and devices for the fully automatic production of boxes from paper or cardboard. A paper strip is applied to the lateral surface (11) of a cylindrical female mould (10) by means of a peripheral male mould, the area of said female mould corresponding to the form of the box to be produced. Vacuum nozzles (12) in the lateral surface (11) fix the paper strip by means of a vacuum. A bottom or lid is stuck to the paper strip shaped in this way in relation to the box wall, by means of an adhesive. When the vacuum is switched off, the produced box can be removed from the female mould (10).

© Ein Polsterkörper, insbesondere zur Verwendung als Füllmaterial in Verpackungen oder als Kanten-und/oder Flächenschutz für zu verpackende Gegenstände umfaßt ein Teilstück eines flächenhaften Streifens oder Bogens aus Papier oder Pappe, das zu einem räumlichen Gebilde mit stoßdämpfenden Eigenschaften geformt ist. Der Streifen oder Bogen besteht teilweise aus Recyclingpapier oder - pappe. Das Gebilde ist elastisch verformbar. Mindestens ein Teilstückabschnitt ist gebogen und mit Einprägungen versehen. Das zugehörige Verfahren sieht vor, daß die Polsterkörper bei Bedarf am Ort des Verpakkens aus Papier oder Pappe hergestellt werden. Ein abgetrenntes Teilstück eines flächenhaften Streifens oder Bogens aus Papier oder Pappe ist zu einem dreidimensionalen Gebilde mit stoßdämpfenden Eigenschaften geformt. Das Teilstück wird vor oder während der Formgebung von einem aufgerollten Streifen abgetrennt. Es wird im wesentlichen U-förmig über eine Breitseitenfläche umgebogen. Die Vorrichtung zur Herstellung von Polsterkörpern weist mindestens ein Formwerkzeug mit mindestens zwei unter Verformung eines zugeführten Teilstücks eines Streifens oder Bogens aus Papier oder Pappe aufeinanderzu beweglichen Teilen auf. Eines der Teile ist als Matrize ausgebildet und weist eine Ausnehmung auf. Ein weiteres Teil ist als Stempel ausgebildet und drückt das Teilstück in die Ausnehmung der Matrize. Die Ausnehmung weist einen im wesentlichen U- oder V-förmigen Querschnitt auf.

An article forming system for forming at least one sheet of material into an article, such as a decorative flower pot cover for example, and a novel article formed utilizing such a system. The article forming system includes a male die, a female die and a platform having a support surface and an opening extending through the support surface. The female die is disposed generally within the opening in the platform with the upper end of the female die being disposed near the support surface. The article forming system includes means for slidingly holding portions of the sheet of material generally against portions of the support surface while permitting such held portions to slide on the support surface , during the forming of the article for cooperating in forming a decorative border on the decorative flower pot cover type of article which flares generally away from the flower pot object when the decorative flower pot cover article is applied to the flower pot. The article formed in accordance with the present invention includes overlapping folds formed by overlapping portions of the sheet of material to bring portions of the sheet of material into bondable contact, the overlapping folds providing the mechanical strength necessary for the formed sheet of material to hold a predetermined shape ( thereby permitting the utilization of thinner sheets of material to form articles.

An improved multi-station machine 10 is disclosed for assembling ring-type closures from generally cylindrical paperboard cylinders and generally circular paperboard discs. The machine employs a rotatable dial plate 50, carrying eight mandrels 54 and an improved ring clamping system (102,104), which dial plate is incrementally rotated by an automatic indexer assembly 24 relative to the various operating stations which consist of a ring feed station 200, a discfeed station 300, and adhesive dispensing station 500, a curling station 650, a grooving station 700 and a closure ejecting station 800. Means are provided for controlling the operation of the various stations so that they operate in substantial synchronism with one another and with the rotatable dial plate 50. The improved disc feed station 300 automatically feeds the lowermost disc from a stack of discs to a position lover a ring on the dial plate and simultaneously forms a i peripheral skirt on the disc and positions it in an open end of the ring. The adhesive dispensing station 500 employs a pair of tube pumps 562 to dispense adhesive and lubricant on partially assembled ring-type closures. The grooving station 700 automatically forms a peripheral groove and a corresponding radially inwardly extending rib in the cylindrical wall of an assembled ring-type closure. The closure ejecting station 800 provides vacuum means 814 for withdrawing a completed closure 896 from a mandrel 54 on the dial plate 50 and pressurized air means 888 for assisting in the automatic removal ofthe closure from the mandrel and for automatically propelling the'thus removed closure from the machine. The ring feed station 200 provides means for preventing the introduction of rings onto the dial plate 50 in response to an indication of insufficient discs at the disc feed station 300. Control means are provided for manually indexing the dial plate 50 as well as prevention of disc feed, and adhesive and lubricant dispensing if an appropriate ring is not present on the dial plate 50, as well as control means for preventing ring feed if sufficient discs are not available at the disc feed station 300. Various other control features are disclosed for the prevention of operator injury, material waste and machine jamming.
