PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preferred method for manufacturing RFID labels.
SOLUTION: An RFID webstock containing a relatively high pitch-density array of semiconductive chips is provided and joined to a web bearing relatively widely spaced antennas in a continuous process. The RFID webstock is separated or cut into individual chip sections, with the spacing of the chips being increased as the RFID webstock is die cut. The individual chips on the sections are then joined to corresponding antennas to form an RFID inlay stock. This process is conducive to high speed roll-to-roll production of RFID tag and label roll stock.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT

An oriented polymeric in-mold label film comprises a hot-stretched, annealed, linerless self-wound film lamina and has a face layer for printing and a base layer which includes a heat-activatable adhesive. The heat-shrinkability of the film is balanced thickness-wise to minimize curl and allow the film to be printed in conventional label-printing presses. An antistat may be included only in the charge for the base layer which includes the heat-activatable adhesive. In the manufacture of labelled blow-molded containers, sheets and labels formed from the film may be handled at high speeds while maintaining accurate registration and dimensional and positional integrity even in the absence of any reinforcing backing, yet the labels perform well on deformable containers such as shampoo bottles.

A label that changes appearance with time is disclosed. The label comprises a first layer that has different permeabilities to a gas in different lateral areas of the label and which comprises a substance that changes colour when in contact with the gas. The substance is arranged within the label such that the gas permeates across the thickness of the layer at different rates in different lateral areas so as to cause the substance to change colour at different rates in said different areas. Another label that changes appearance with time is disclosed that allows ink to permeate to its surface at different rates in different lateral areas.
