A diamond-coated body including: a substrate formed of a cemented carbide; a diamond coating; and an interface layer interposed between the substrate and the diamond coating, wherein the interface layer consists of a solid solution including an aluminum nitride and a metal which belongs to one of groups IVa, Va and VIa of the periodic table. The interface layer is preferably provided by one of TiAlN, CrAlN and VAlN. The substrate is preferably formed of a super-fine particle cemented carbide.

A diamond-coated body including: a substrate formed of a cemented carbide; a diamond coating; and an interface layer interposed between the substrate and the diamond coating, wherein the interface layer consists of a solid solution including an aluminum nitride and a metal which belongs to one of groups IVa, Va and VIa of the periodic table. The interface layer is preferably provided by one of TiAlN, CrAlN and VAlN. The substrate is preferably formed of a super-fine particle cemented carbide.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high adhesive strength with a simple composition even when a substrate of hyperfine-grained high cemented carbide alloy with a large content of Co is coated with a diamond film. SOLUTION: The surface of substrate 12 of hyperfine-grained high cemented carbide alloy with a large content of Co is subjected to roughening treatment to the prescribed surface roughness, thereafter, an intermediate layer 18 of TiAlN is formed by a PVD method without performing removal treatment of Co by means of acid treatment, etc., and the diamond film 16 is applied on the intermediate layer 18 by using a microwave plasma CVD device.
